| Help Chew Proof Harness Needed ASAP!!!! Hello fellow Yorkie lovers, parents, and siblings I just love my Nene' so much that I almost freaked out when the nylon harness he had on today broke off (due to his chewing unbeknown to me) right on the sidewalk after I just finished crossing the street with him!!!:2omg My chew baby has chewed through five harnesses already. I need a chew proof harness so that this nightmare doesn't happen again. Someone in a Petland store mentioned leather harnesses but that they don't come in my Nene's size. Please help us. He wears his coat in the winter so I need something that is adjustable or maybe buy 2 different sizes (1=summer, 1=winter). Nene' and I would greatly appreciate any info ASAP. Many thanks, Maria and Nene' |

| Does his coat have a little hole at the base of the neck? If so that is there so you can hook his leash to the harnes in under his coat. JUst just his harness when his coat is on so he doesnt have access to it. I dunno if thats much help to you but it workedfor me..lol |

| Ever consider a backup harness?? Maybe a less bulky slim fit one? And hook the leash to both of them as a "Just in case" Kinda deal?? Ive yet to hear of a chewproof harness. Maybe try ebay, or shop online to find a leather one that will fit. Im sure you'll find . |

| Solution I had that problem with my baby Mia too. The dog trainer told me to train her not to bite the harness this way. He told me while at home put the harness on. But before you put it on spray it with bitter apple enough so every time she bites it she is discourage from doing it. How ever the Bitter apple wears off so you have to do it again and again. It worked for me. Hope this helps.... |

| I make step-in harnesses out of Dupioni Silk. They are very light weight and would fit easily under any coat or sweater that has a hole for the harness "d" ring to fit through. I agree with Katamami29 - the ideal situation would be to teach Nene to leave her harness alone -- that it isn't a chew toy. As an emergency chew stopper I have found that a light coat of Habereno Pepper Sauce (the hot hot hot green stuff) works. Good luck to you. I am so very glad to hear that your scary harness disaster had a happy ending. |

| Kandi is a chewer too, so I finally started just putting her harness on when we leave the house. When she's at home, I don't leave it on her any more. When she's out and has it on there's a lot of stuff to do and see that distracts her from chewing. I am also very glad that this story had a happy ending! How scary!

| Hello all, Many thanks for all who responded to my urgent message. I am still looking for another harness for my boy, Nene'. I guess I will have to do the pepper sauce thing since the bitter apple not did work the first time I used it. I never leave his harness on. He only wears it when he goes outside to potty and for his daily walk. The thing about the pepper sauce is that I would have to remember that his harness has it every time I put it on him. I don't wont to forget and accidentally rub my eyes, etc. I can't stand the hot sauces myself. I will still search for the vest type for him maybe that would work out better. thanks, Maria and Nene' |

| Maria, I make vest-harnesses. Mine never bother them because they feel like a shirt on them. Very light-weight. Let me know if you're interested.

| Amelia is a chewer, too. I thought she would grow out of it as she grew older. 1 1/2 years later - she's still the same. I can't tell you how much money we've spent on harnesses for that girl, only to have her chew through them in 5 minutes flat. I tried everything from harnesses to vests to Puppia.....I finally, FINALLY found one that works - she's had it for 8 months now & she hasn't chewed through it. It's a La Cinopelca harness . It is a bit more expensive than other harnesses, but I tell you - for a dog that chews through all the others, it's money well spent. I just bought her & Rosie a cute step in harness for Christmas thinking maybe she'd outgrown the chewing, but nope. It's already snapped apart (just put it on her yesterday). Oh well.
