Donating YT 1000 Club Member | entire thread about denise ronayne A BAD Yorkie reseller -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Occationally I see an advertisment above for Country Home Yorkies. They're located in Sutton MA and if you visit my web site ( yorkies.com ) you'll see some very negative comments about this place. My comments are located on my breeder referral page for Massachusetts. I have documentation on at least 10 sick dogs this woman has sold. Some so sick they either died or required Liver Shunt surgery to maintain their life. I'm told that most of the dogs she sells are bought from what can be described as Puppymill dogs. She doesn't disclose that she's not the breeder and she doesn't give any AKC registration papers since these dogs are not AKC registered. I'm also informed she only accepts CASH and there is no formal written health guaranty. A WORD TO THE WISE!!!!! __________________ Stephen Glass Worcester, MA

| It's really fascinating in a sick way to go to countryhomeyorkies.com and read on and on about how special their dogs are, and are treated, and hand raised, see them practically drinking a Cognac next to the fireplace and then go to yorkies.com to see the horrible nightmarish, apparent truth. The breeder's site claims "We home raise our Yorkies by hand the old fashioned way! Here in our home, we raise our Yorkies with us and not in a kennel environment. They have the run of the house!" - If she has that many dogs to sell, it's doubtful they all run the house. Uncaged. And there's this nonsensical paragraph: "Terriers need to grow and give fostering compassion to each puppy that we raise in our quiet country enviornment. Whether it be frollicing on our expansive lawns, gardens or walks in our woodlands with us, our puppies have the benefit of growing up in the fresh air of our private countryside estate." - "terriers need to grow..."? well, yaaah Maybe they should focus more on healthy dogs, rather than dogs that are out playing polo? And then this gem: "Being a decorator by trade, our home has been designed with our Yorkies in mind! It is a peacefilled home and the Yorkies enjoy this cozy, serene setting. They truly are the heart of our home! " - Huh?? Home decorating to create a serene environment for the Yorkies? As in, lavender potpourri simmering away to soothe them? Refreshing bunches of dried flowers and herbs hung in pleasing color arrangements?? I don't know about you, but my Yorkies simply chew the walls if the paint color selection doesn't compliment the fine leather sofa.... There is also a photo of a puppy that looks way over-photoshopped: Denise Ronayne - About Us right up to its cheesy cartoony eyes. Above and left of the beauty queen pic... *shakes head* This is just too much. It would be funny if it wasn't so tragic. Teresa |

| Wow! I came on here as I usually do to find information on this wonderful site to help me do the best by my sweet boy Max.... who will turn 2 next month. Imagine my surprise to find a thread about his breeder on the front page. Please don't flame me for telling my own experience - which is positive. There is a health guarantee provided you take your dog for a vet check within one week. That seems fair enough to me. After that, unfortunately, it is the genetic lottery whether a dog develops health problems. Have any of you actually been to her place? The dogs don't all live in the house, but it's clear that they are treated well and do come into the house. They are also clearly very well socialized with other dogs and with people. I looked at yorkie puppies in stores that do get them from "mills" and the way they interact with people and other dogs in the store is completely different than what we experienced at country home. The 33 photos on the website are not all available for sale. They are only updated periodically. Now finally, the puppies. I did see a half a dozen puppies the day we went. She brought in a range of temperaments and physical characteristics. Every one of them was a treasure in its own right... and it was hard to pick only one but we did... and i know every yorkie owner is passionate about their dogs but honestly.... everyone who meets Max wants to know where we got him because he is so loving and friendly, yet spirited and playful, and adorable to boot. I get requests for his breeder's name both from yorkie owners and non-owners. He had some kind of worms when we initially brought him home (can't remember exactly what), but she (denise) had given us de-wormer and our vet said that this is very common and nothing to be concerned about. I'm sorry I can't recall all the details but believe me, I am a type-A about all of this stuff and I go to a very good vet. She has been in this business for 20 years. It's not a hobby, it's a full time job. She has help to do it - I met the help. Does that make it a puppy mill? I am confused. I did not want a show dog and I did not want a dog to breed. Not having him registered didn't bother me. Denise says she doesn't want to sell puppies to be bred.... I signed an agreement saying that I would not. Can someone explain to me why that is bad? |

| Stratton. Its good that you had a positive experience with Denise...which im glad...because ive looked her up when i read this thread and she does have a long list of complaints...I wouldnt say she is running a puppy mill because i havent seen her kennel...and i checked out her website as well...and frankly i feel she didnt give too much information about how she does things...but it does sound like she has the same motives as a puppy mill....money....she has turned breeding yorkies in to her JOB...a business strickly....with hired help and all...I feel she has turned yorkies in to a commande. How hard was it to get a yorkie from her??? Did she hammer you with questions?? Was there any circumstances that she would not let someone have a puppy besides breeding? The worm thing bothers me a bit too...because your pup should of been wormed by then...but then i have to ask the question of how old was your pup when you picked him up. Little things like that give you an idea if some one is a good breeder... I understand that you wanted a pet...as far as not a show dog...but your puppy should have papers(of course you would had to pay extra for them)...if that was in fact what you wanted was a PureBreed...because that is your proof....the sire and dam dont need to be show dogs but they should have papers too. How else are you going to know if your pup is who she claims it to be.....People are untrust worthy... little Fluffy could get lose one day and mate with spike down the road...and sure the litter looks like yorkies but you wouldnt know for sure....and here you paid $3000 for an "almost purebreed". So i think documents and papers are important....But as long as youre happy and Max is a healthy and lively pup you did the right thing. But please...if you decide to get another yorkie....do research on your next breeder...even if that means waiting longer for get your baby. I hope i didnt come across mean or anything....im just passionate about these little guys |

| Here is what I received back from Animal Planets complaint dept.: Dear Viewer: Thank you for your concern about Dogs 101. Although Animal Planet filmed Ms. Ronanye's dogs for the show, the network is in no way affiliated with Ms. Ronanye nor were we aware of the allegations that are being voiced against her. During filming, Ms. Ronanye's property and dogs seemed well cared for, therefore no suspicisions were raised at the time. We take these concerns very seriously and will look into them further. We appreciate your interest in our programming. Sincerely, Viewer Relations Animal Planet |

| That sounds lame. Thanks, dogears, for taking the time to contact Animal Planet. Had they even bothered to do a simple internet search on her name they would have been instantly alerted to the fact she has a lousy reputation. How incredibly irresponsible the media is, just plain scary. |

| Why is having a job that is your passion bad? Quote:
You are not coming across as mean. Denise did offer papers so we could register... we didn't want them. I don't agree that if someone does this as a business that is somehow a judgment on their character as a breeder. It is not a pleasant occupation if you don't have a great love for animals. As I mentioned, I saw several dogs over two visits and they were all healthy, vibrant and social dogs... she even brought them to see us two at a time so we could see how they interacted with other pups. Regarding your comment on her website... I did look at a lot of websites from people all over the country who were selling yorkies. Few provided even as much info as she did. Most breeders on the AKC website don't even have websites themselves. So I don't know how you would compare. Regarding complaints on the internet... well, that's the way the world works now. If you have a presence on the internet, you will have detractors on the internet too. When I google her and the business though, all of the complaints lead back to one website - either directly or through links like on this discussion board. That's different than having complaints all over. I have certainly gotten food for thought by reading this and other threads. | |
