| fighting a losing battle? Granted i have been VERY busy lately, Layla still gets her teeth brushed at the least, every other day. Today i noticed hard plaque like stuff on her teeth that i can't scratch off with my finger nails. So i brushed them. then applied petzlife. Is it unrealistic to think that just brushing and petzlife will keep her teeth perfect or does every dog, no matter how dilligent the mom is, at some point have to get their teeth cleaned by the vet? i REALLY don't want to have to do that but am i just putting off the inevitable? |

| I think eventually they need a professional teeth cleaning. If they don't chew on bones enough, then the tarter will build up with time. Maybe get one of those teeth scrapers and try keeping it off with that as well. Don't stop brushing. There is another product on the market that's suppose to be even better than Petzlife. I'll go check my magazines and see if I can find it. |

| I do think that it is realistic to never have to have them professionally cleaned. If you are using petzlife and brushing already, there isn't much more you can do. A small amount of buildup may not hurt a thing. Maybe just try scraping it. The only problem with scraping is that I think it is best to have them cleaned after to smooth out the surface.

| They say green tripe, not dehydrated, does an amazing job of keeping teeth clean and white.

| clean teeth ideas My 4 and 1/2 lb., two and a half yr. old Brady has loved "Flossies" since he could begin chewing. They are a twisted rawhide, and he never tires of them. His teeth seem to be in real good shape. We buy them in quantity online wherever the best price is at that time. Made by Merrill. |

| Dog teeth brushing I started out using my finger with chicken and beef flavored doggy tooth paste. I graduated to a Q-tip and then to a Sesame St. tooth brush with the paste on it. I brushed my last Yorkies teeth, every other day for 14 years and never did she need her teeth cleaned..she also never chewed a bone. I thought maybe I was lucky. But now I have Dixie Cup that I have had since was three month old. I started RIGHT THEN fooling with her mouth and letting her know that I was going to be in her mouth a lot. She just turned five and my vet is awed by how clean her teeth are--not a hint of tartar. She agrees that if continue the every other day(sometimes daily) SERIOUS TOOTH BRUSHING (I mean I stay in her mouth and really scrub, esp in the back hard to get to areas)that she will probably never need them cleaned. I use nothing special. I use that Sesame street, TEENY brush, soak it first in very hot water to get it soft and then put her in my lap and begin the process. So, I do not think that it is necessarily bones or an inevitable thing that they will need a prof. cleaning at all--Dixie doesn't ever get a bone either. She is serious and dangerous resource guarder and two trainers told me to just forget it. I've ben hurt too many times trying to train this behavior out of her. No way!! YorkieSue |

| Buddy is 3 1/2 and has no tartar on his teeth. I do brush daily and us petzlife 2x weekly but I also think that chewing on a bone also helps greatly. He is and has always been a big chewer. I have several natural bones around the house and he seems to be chewing on one most of the time. |

| Where do you get petzlife and how do you use it? Daisy is 4 yrs old and has never had her teeth cleaned professionally. I try to brush about once a week but her teeth look great. She gets dental type bones and loves to carry stuffed animals, which I think helped. Teddy on the other hand is not quite 4 yrs old and has had his professionally cleaned once already and he looks like he needs it again. He does not like to carry stuffed toys and I wonder if that is the difference.
