Default Dog teeth brushing

I started out using my finger with chicken and beef flavored doggy tooth paste. I graduated to a Q-tip and then to a Sesame St. tooth brush with the paste on it. I brushed my last Yorkies teeth, every other day for 14 years and never did she need her teeth cleaned..she also never chewed a bone. I thought maybe I was lucky.

But now I have Dixie Cup that I have had since was three month old. I started RIGHT THEN fooling with her mouth and letting her know that I was going to be in her mouth a lot. She just turned five and my vet is awed by how clean her teeth are--not a hint of tartar. She agrees that if continue the every other day(sometimes daily) SERIOUS TOOTH BRUSHING (I mean I stay in her mouth and really scrub, esp in the back hard to get to areas)that she will probably never need them cleaned. I use nothing special.

I use that Sesame street, TEENY brush, soak it first in very hot water to get it soft and then put her in my lap and begin the process. So, I do not think that it is necessarily bones or an inevitable thing that they will need a prof. cleaning at all--Dixie doesn't ever get a bone either. She is serious and dangerous resource guarder and two trainers told me to just forget it. I've ben hurt too many times trying to train this behavior out of her. No way!!
