I think it's ridiculous! This is their estimates.Let me know what you think about it. | that seems excessive. i go to banfield and they include the spay and extras with their wellness plan. the whole thing including shots and almost everything they need for the first year is about $400.

This is an outrageous price. When I had Mollie spayed now she stayed 3 days in the hospital it was about 6 weeks after she had her babies, she got a uterine infection and also had 2 teeth pulled, and it was only around $350. I live in Metro Atlanta where vets are very expensive. I would do some checking around to see if you can get a cheaper price. The local humane society here in Atlanta does it for I think around $150 - $200. Good Luck in your search and keep us posted. What part of VA do you live in?

| That is way over the top! I paid for some optional extras, had 4 teeth removed but no microchip and the bill was a little under $200. The microchips are only $50 here. I am considering it. I found even in our small town there was a big difference in pricing. Not such a big deal with only one, but as our canine family grew we found a less expensive vet. I would not have given up quality for price but the new vet wound up being our favorite of all time.

| If I remember correctly. I think I got my microchipped for under $30, I know it was cheaper for Wyatt because I got a $10 rebate I think is was for $20. I would most definitely be checking with other vets in your area. We also have SpayGA where you can get discount certificates. I got one for my lab for around $55 but, I had to pay the vet an additional $75 I think it was but this was for meds and she also had a hernia repaired. Please keep us posted on what you find out.

| My concern would be to find a vet that knows what he's doing and whom i trust.I like my vet and i trust him completely with the surgery but at the same time i think it's way too much for a small dog's surgery.I'll ask around and see what my neighbors say.Keep you posted. |

| My pre-op bloodwork was $80.00, I'm not sure why the pre-op sedation along with anesthesia, but the rest is right in line with what I paid, but I also got post-op pain meds and she stayed overnight. My vet didn't charge for tooth extraction during the spay procedure. That is very expensive for microchipping, but it always going to be more expensive to have a vet do it. Many folks prefer to have chipping done while under anesthesia because it is a pretty thick needle and it obviously isn't pain free, but Sissy is a very small 4 lbs and was chipped just fine by a local animal control for $20.

My furkids Donating Member | I haven't had Sadie spayed yet...My vet told me 385.00. That is being done with laser...they laser is only 39.00 more so it still is expensive..and I have 2 that have to be done...as soon as I get a job and get got up on things this is first on my list of things to get done.

| spaying WOW...we are in Palm Beach county Florida and Emee's spaying was only $250...and I could have had her done at the Humane Society for FIVE dollars. My daughter took her Yorkie there and got spaying, rabies and microchip for a total of $15....but she said my Yorkies were no doubt too good to go to a public clinic..I would have if the vet had charged anymore then $300. Blood work for a young dog is not necaessay according to all three vets I talked with...and forget the $15 collar...never used or needed one.. Last edited by YorkieRose; 11-02-2006 at 05:46 AM. |

| I am in the same state as you are and that is what mine ran. I did opt for a CBC for my own peace of mind even tho my vet said it wasn't necessary. I think my total bill was 5-600 and I had alot more that 4 teeth pulled. They gave me a break on it LOL And Pat is right there is no need to buy the 15 dollar e-collar. LOL hmmm, I just reread your post and I didn't get a microchip either. Come to think of it you are getting off really cheap! LOL |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Call a few other vets in the area to get an idea if your's is in line. Cali had her spay done while in heat and they were checking for a intestinal blockage(there wasn't one ) and had liver and intestinal biopsies done. I had to have it done at the ER clinic by a board certified surgeopn so in case there was a liver shunt they could fix it at the same time. It cost $2,800.00!!!! But if I had had it done at the regular vet and just a spay I think I was told it would be around 300-400.

| Wow I'm in shock! That is an outlandish price!!! I had my kallie spayed, dental and all shots for under $300 at a very good vet in Florida. The vet wanted $40 for a microchip but I found a "clinic" that would do it for $10. I also decided to get the 3 year rabie shot from the clinic as my vet does not have the 3 year.........his county only recognizes the one yr. So SHOP around and make a few phone calls, ask a friend that has a dog or visit a local pet supply store and see if they have any suggestions. "Goggle" it on the internet and see what you come up with. I would not pay that price.

| forget the $15 collar...never used or needed one..[/QUOTE] My friend told me they charge you for the collar anyway because they put it on the dog right after the surgery so they don't have to worry about the dog picking at the stitches. |
