| If it is just the rabies and you aren't worried about him getting the disease because it is extremely unlikely on city streets, then sure if he is up to it. Shots don't work that fast though, so he would most likely still be considered unprotected. I would wait 1-2 weeks after giving the last round of DHP to go out of the yard.

| Owned by Jackson ♥ Donating Member | I walked Jackson before his Rabies shot. He went to baseball parks for little league games, walks in neighborhoods, etc. He didn't go to a dog park until his Rabies though.

| yea i plan on having him walk around the neighborhood. i won't take him to the dog park ever. he has never set foot outside and he's 6 months old. i'm so overprotective. i wanted to make sure he got all his shots first. now that he's going in for his last set of shots, i'm just excited to take him out. i want him to enjoy being a dog you know?

I feel you miss a great deal of socialization and learning experiences during that 6 months when they're isolated from the world. That's not fair to them. Even newborn babies only have to stay out of public places for a few weeks. During those 6 months, Jackson experienced and loved snow, grass, water, running around in the backyard chasing balls, exercise, walking properly on a leash, meeting new people & seeing new things. Has he EVER been around another dog? He probably won't know how to act around other dogs. How many other people besides you has he seen? I don't know - I just feel it's unfair to the dog.

However, in an urban setting, where streets may not be as pristine as other parts of the country, it is understandable for an owner to be a little more cautious with a 2.5 lb yorkie under 6 months old. This is also assuming that there are no other dogs in the household. I'm all about giving dogs the chance to be just that, dogs. But at the same time I think it's perfectly normal for first time owners to be a little more cognizant of the surroundings of their dogs. In those 6 months, the puppy can still be exposed to other dogs in a controlled environment. Some owners may not want their <6 month old yorkie running around in a dirty dog park covered with feces and woodchips. Just my opinion. *ARF* | |

| I would consult your vet. My dogs are fully vaccinated, but my vet recommended that they not be walked or socialized with other dogs until they are a year old She said there is way too much Parvo in my area to chance it. |

I'm sorry, but in this case, I totally disagree with the vet. I have never in my life heard of keeping a dog inside for a YEAR. That's absolutely insane, sorry, lol. If Parvo is high in your area, then don't bring him to dog parks or Petsmarts' or places like that.. but a dog is a dog and they need to go outside and experience the world and their own species.
