| Recurring staph infections? My 2 year old yorkie was "diagnosed" with allergies this past Spring. We had a long summer with her and have finally taken her off of Benedryl and are feeding her Natural Balance Allergy food, which seems to be working great - plus summer in TX has ended. Over the summer on two or three different occassions she had what the vet said were staph infections due to allergies. I just bathed her and noticed the red spots on her lower belly again. I'm so tired of going to the vet and getting paying a lot of $$ for a temporary fix. They put her on some antibiotic for 7-10 days - the staph clears up and then reappears a few months later. We haven't had a break out since August. Does your dog have this? Is there anything else we can do? I'm 9 1/2 months pregnant and want to get this fixed for good before baby arrives. |

| I have a cat with bad allergies and she scratches a lot. She's been on antibiotics a lot before too because of the little sores she'll create on her body. I got a medicated shampoo (I use Malaseb) and I use that when I bathe her. You let it sit for 10 minutes before you rinse it off. I also have a mediated leave-in conditioner that I put on her too before dry her. Those seem to really help. So I suggest getting a medicated shampoo from your vet that will help fight microbial infections on the skin and use that regularly.

| First of all.. And Best wishes on your upcoming addition to the family!! As for your Yorkie about allergies but you'd think they would have meds for dogs and cats like they have for humans... wish I had some answers for you. There are alot of YT members that are very knowledgeable about such things, I hope they see this thread so you get some answers!! Last edited by domesticated08; 11-18-2007 at 03:38 PM. | I really don't know if this is the answer for you, but you may want to try to use an antihistamine. Gracie's vet has her on 1/2 of a 10mg tablet over the counter twice a day. You can try this for a couple of weeks to see if it helps. I should say Gracie weights about 14.5 lbs. Happy Thanksgivings

Gracie has been getting weekly allergy shots for three year now and they have helped greatly. Happy Thanksgivings
