| Your Yorkie should be riding harnessed into a car seat (if he is not) and one that is solid foam constructed to avoid him being jiggled around. My Bella was prone to motion sickness every time we traveled by car...until I bought a Snoozer car seat. See link below: Snoozer Dog Car Seats Here's a picture of my Pheebs riding in her car seat, too!

| Toby used to get sick even in a car seat but I kept taking him on short trips like to the gas station, drive-thru bank, etc. When we went on trips longer than 1/2 hour the vet said I could give him a 1/2 dramamine and it works like a charm! He never gets sick. I used to give him 1/4 tablet but it didn't always work. So now when we go camping I give him 1/2 dramamine about two hours before we leave and he never gets sick. So that's something you might want to consider but check with your vet as to how much you should give.

| I have had Zoey since birth but she cried every time she when in the car til she was almost a year old. Overstimulation. I just kept taking her and eventually she stopped. My mom's bichon used to get car sick but it lessened with age. He loved to go in the car if he ran off we could only get him to come back by opening the car door. So he did not get sick from fright. You could try leveling the windows open for better air circulation. Mom always had to keep the windows open some for the bichon if not he would throw up.

| Norman was sick in the car when we brought him home from the breeder - it was a longish drive. We did the short trips out for gas, a coffee, etc and slowly made the trips longer and longer. This summer, at 6 months he went for a 16 hour car ride to the beach in North Carolina with no issues at all! Good luck with your pup... |

| We have a pukey pup too. Today, we tried a "skybox" car seat made by Kurgo. Wanted to get a snoozer but needed it right away and couldn't find one locally. The Kurgo seems like a good alternative. Anyway, we drove for a little over an hour with a short break half-way through, and Gracie was panting and a little drooly, but didn't throw up. She seemed a bit calmer than when she was crated. We did open the windows some for fresh air and she seemed to like that. I can't yet tell if she gets anxious-sick or motion-sick - she looked to the side today and that didn't seem to bother her so I think it's anxiety. We're traveling 45 min to the airport tomorrow, 3 hrs on a plane and 45 min by car on the other end - this Kurgo carseat is collapsible so we can use it for both car rides and fold it up and put it in the suitcase for the flight (she'll be in her carrier then). Fingers crossed that we can make it the whole day without throwing up, but we'll have some old towels, wipes, etc just in case! |
