Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Help Please ! My 1 yr old 2 pound yorkie has just come into season for her first time. Aside from keeping her away from my 3 male yorkies we are going crazy trying to control the dripping of blood all over. Everytime we put the containment panties on her she pees in them and when we put her on the floor she pees anywhere . She was trained to the wee wee pad until today when this all happened. Now the washer and dryer have been going all day. Anyone have any suggestions on keeping this situation under some control ? We were afraid to have her spayed for fear of the anesthesia with her being so small....but after this we will most definitely have to do it.

| It seems like you have tried many things. Why have you waited so long to spay this girl. She is to small to breed and by not spaying her you are increasing her chances of being vulnerable to many illneses. As soon as she is over this heat I highly suggest you have her spayed so that you don't go through thid whole ordeal gain. Hope this helps. |

| She said she didn't spay because of her small size. She also said she would be getting spayed after this. Are you using a pad in the panties? She'll still pee, but then you only have to change the pad, not wash the diaper. Hopefully she'll be ok with her training once this is over. I think they can spay her even though she is in heat, call the vet and see if it can be done now. Good luck!

Perhaps if you had lost a 9month old puppy on the operating table to anesthesia you would not be so harsh about your comments. When I got her she had kennel cough for over 4 months thanks to a lousy breeder so we could not even begin to think about it until recently. We never had any intention of breeding her and my question asked for help from knowledgeable people as to methods of keeping her comfortable until this passes. I did not ask for advice re:spaying. So your suggestions are moot. Thank you.

I did not put a pad in the diaper, she is so tiny and it falls off as soon as i put her down on the floor. I will try a panty liner now.Once again I thank you for your response.

| Wow....my washer and dryer is always going all day anyway...lol... but the panties for a tiny like that could be handwashed quickly and put in the dryer or hung to dry in a short time I would think. Hope this doesn't sound harsh because it is not my intention but there shouldn't be "blood dripping all over the place" imo from such a teeny tiny little girl, especially for a first heat?? Maybe a vet check is in order. My experience is that the first heat is very minimal and they keep themselves pretty clean but your little girl is different I guess. I agree with Teri about the pads or using disposable preemie diapers on her. I also have a type of pantie with suspenders so they cannot slide off. If you are interested I will try to find the contact info for where I bought them. When a tiny pees there is not much mess either imo. A teaspoon maybe after sleeping all night, etc. I have no idea why she would stop peeing on the pad as she was trained. Mine still use the pad when they are in heat. I would be patient with her and keep trying until you find a routine that works for you and her. I would also be afraid of the anesthesia and risk of unnecessary and painful surgery on a tiny like her. I would look into options like tubal ligation or arthroscopic spay ...something less invasive than removal of all of her hormone producing organs that will still prevent her from getting pregnant but will be less painful and less risky. | Just a suggestion you might want to try...we have found that the Little Swimmers work well because they are designed to fit (kids) tighter. We would use a ribbon to tie all the way around them just at the "hips" and it worked quite well...just something to consider when all else fails! Good luck! |

| My oldest, Bell when she is in heat she loses control of her bladder, or at least it seems that way, becasue she is trained but when she is in seasons, she has many accidents. I think the premie diapers or swimmers diaper will work.

| These panties work great for the little ones because of the shoulder strap and you can almost custom size them. You should be able to put larger size pads in these also. They are more expensive but so worth it. http://www.joybies.com/pagedog.html

These panties look like overalls (sp?) so it doesn't look like diapers. I have the denim with pink for the girls and the denim with red for the boys. I love them.
