| Betty Boop has bloody poop again! Betty Boop has blood and mucous in her poop again! It just began this morning and I rushed her to the vet. The vet gave her a shot of an antibiotic and told me to give Reglan and Sucralfate for a couple of days. On our way home, she vomited. She is not feeling well at all this morning. It hurts to see her this way. I changed her food from Blue Buffalo to Merrick's Grammy Pot Pie, which she really likes. It is a little lower in protein and fat, which I thought was a good thing. The vet said he believes it is something she is eating outside (acorns/pecans,weeds, etc, etc). He said she has ulcerative colitis. He wants me to walk her on a leash each time she goes outside to potty or play. This way I can report back to him that she hasn't eaten anything outside. He will then look at her food she eats each day. I personally think it's the things she could get into outside. I am in the process of having a chain link fence built with a cover over it in order to contain her. This way she can still enjoy being outside and still be safe from a lot of foreign objects. Until the fence is built, I'm going to have a problem with the dh because he doesn't watch her outside like I do and he won't think about putting her on a leash!! I'm showing him the vet bill today and maybe that will wake him up. I think she will be fine. If she isn't better and is vomiting throughout the day, I'm taking her back so he can give her a shot of (can't remember what he said, but it is supposed to be a "miracle" shot for nausea). She got it a few weeks ago and I didn't have to give her Reglan. Thanks for listening. It helps to have someone to talk to that can relate.

| I hope I don't offend anyone..... I am so very sorry that little Betty Boop is having poop problems again. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. My little Peppy gets bloody poop whenever he gets stressed out, so we try to keep it low keyed around here. Just a thought -- what about a soft basket type muzzle when she goes outside to keep her from eating no-no's until you get your fence up? I know it may sound HORRIFIC to some, but that may be a compromise with your husband so that he doesn't have to walk her on a leash AND to keep Betty Boop safe. If it fits properly and is only on for potty detail, just maybe it will work. |

| I hope she gets better real fast. All you can do is go out with her and make sure she is not picking up and eating bad stuff. The enclosed area will help. The Antiemetic shot will certainly help! |

| Awww poor baby. The good news is that if your vet thinks it's caused by what she may be ingesting than that will be fixable problem and nothing to terrible to worry about. Quote:

| I'm sorry to hear about Betty Boop! Many might disagree with me but I think I'd take her off of kibble for a while if she were my dog. Merrick Grammie's Pot Pie is an OK product - I used to use it in conjuction with dog food for my boys. But, Merrick has had problems recently with contamination in their treats. The company also has had quality assurance issues. Yorkies are also prone to IBD and as you know LS and MVD. Just curious, has BB had a BAT? These are symptoms we had with Daisy and battled for years before she was diagnosed with liver probs and IBD and allergies. I'd probably opt for obedience training and reinforcement over the muzzle but that is not a quick fix unless you are really committed. It can work, Teddy kept eating everything and I taught him the LEAVE IT command and he is 97% compliant. Not quite 100, but Teddy never will be 100% compliant at anything except sleeping, playing and eating. LOL Thoughts are with you and BB!

I sure hope it never turns out to be IBD or anything else bad because of negligence of any kind on my part. I need to read up on IBD. Maybe go ahead and put her on an IBD diet?? for prevention?? The Grammy pot pie goes back tomorrow and she goes back on Blue Buffalo again, at least until I figure out what I need to do about food. I had no idea about the Grammy Pot Pie having quality assurance problems.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am sorry BB is sick again. I had so many problems with Cali's tummy problems. I stopped giving her hooves and chews and it really improved her problem. I keep her on a very limited diet too. Hopefully Betty will feel better soon.

| Oh no ... I'm sorry! I think the basket mouth protector (muzzle just sounds no fun). Mine is the same way, inside really good and knows "LEAVE IT" outside ... huh mommy? What are you saying? I don't speak that language mommy? Oh do what ever I want mommy? OK! I swear that's the dialogue in my furbutts mind. |

| Oh, I'm so sorry little Ms. Boop is not feeling good. I hope you can get to what is causing this and things get resolved real quick. I know how heartbreaking it is to see them sick. I took Zhoie off the BB when the recall came out and put her on Taste of the Wild, fish flavor, so far she is doing well with it. The girl loves anything fish. I would love to use Acana, but the higher protein didn't work well for her. I will keep Betty Boop in my prayers. Please keep us posted. Kisses to the Boopster! XXOOXOXX

| Oh no I'm so sorry to hear that, poor Betty Boop. Bailey had bloody poop when I first brought him home, I was so worried. We feel horrible when our babies are not feeling good. I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers and hope that she recovers from this quickly and that it won't happen to her again. Sending hugs.

| I hope Betty Boop if feeling better this morning. I replied to your last thread about Betty Boop because we had just gone through the same thing, only a bit more severe with my baby boy. I had to take him in and have him started on an IV because this last time was the third or fourth time we had gone through this with him and it was by far the worst. Anyway, we started out taking everything away from him and slowly adding things back to see what was causing it - including letting him run around the yard. We put him on Hills ID prescription food to start for a couple of days and then reintroduced his regular diet back. He tolerated that fine. Then I reintroduced his treats - natural, grass fed bully sticks...three days later he started the vomiting again. They were too high in fat or something. I took those away and then slowly let him start going outside again and he has done fine with that. I think we have narrowed it down to the treats...any sort of bully sticks, etc. They, for some reason, make him really, really sick. They give him bloody, mucusy poop and blood tinged vomit. It is either IBD or HGE, but whatever it is, I will not give them to him anymore. My vet told me to to reintroduce each thing back to him one by one so I could narrow it down. So far, it has worked. Good luck to you, I know how worrisome this can be! |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I am sorry Betty Boop is having problems again and hoping she is all better soon! Just a thought here about the Cheerios....I don't know how often Betty gets Cheerios. I have a foster girl here that anytime she is given Cheerios or other grain type foods will have a bloody stool. Her system just doesn't tolerate too much grain in her diet. It's a challenge because everyone else here can have Cheerios and I do use them as treats occasionally.....I just have to give her another type of treat.

| I appreciate everyone's well suggestions, wishes and prayers. Betty Boop is doing much better today. She still doesn't want to play like her old self, but she is feeling better. I'm a little concerned that she hasn't had a bowel movement since yesterday morning. This is the same thing that happened before. I'm calling the vet in a few minutes. Anyone have any suggestions? Would pumpkin help? I walk her on a leash outside and she doesn't know what to think about that! Can't wait until the fence is built which should be very very soon. Thanks again!

| I hope Betty Boop feels better. Our last yorkie Keally had IBD most of her life and had many bloody poop episodes. I know what you are going through and I hope all goes well. We have a new baby named Kinder and she likes to eat everything inside and outside. We have to watch her carefully ; luckily she has a cast iron tummy. I do remember we ended up putting Keally on Prescription Diet ID and ZD by Science Diet and she did very well and also with her meds. We lost her at 12 1/2 years due to a brain tumor. Take care of and Betty Boop will be in my prayers. |
