Betty Boop has blood and mucous in her poop again! It just began this morning and I rushed her to the vet. The vet gave her a shot of an antibiotic and told me to give Reglan and Sucralfate for a couple of days. On our way home, she vomited. She is not feeling well at all this morning. It hurts to see her this way.
I changed her food from Blue Buffalo to Merrick's Grammy Pot Pie, which she really likes. It is a little lower in protein and fat, which I thought was a good thing.
The vet said he believes it is something she is eating outside (acorns/pecans,weeds, etc, etc). He said she has
ulcerative colitis. He wants me to walk her on a leash each time she goes outside to potty or play. This way I can report back to him that she hasn't eaten anything outside. He will then look at her food she eats each day. I personally think it's the things she could get into outside.
I am in the process of having a chain link fence built with a cover over it in order to contain her. This way she can still enjoy being outside and still be safe from a lot of foreign objects. Until the fence is built, I'm going to have a problem with the dh because he doesn't watch her outside like I do and he won't think about putting her on a leash!! I'm showing him the vet bill today and maybe that will wake him up.
I think she will be fine. If she isn't better and is vomiting throughout the day, I'm taking her back so he can give her a shot of (can't remember what he said, but it is supposed to be a "miracle" shot for nausea). She got it a few weeks ago and I didn't have to give her Reglan.
Thanks for listening. It helps to have someone to talk to that can relate.
