| Please help, my Yorkie was kicked in the head by a horse Hello all, I new to this and joined hoping, praying, somebody can give me some info so I can help my dog Toby. Wednesday morning my dogs, 2 yorkies two poodles, managed to dig out of the back yard. The girls were all on the front porch when I discovered the escape but my male, 6 month old Toby was not with them. I found him in the pasture and it appears one of the horses kicked him in the head. He was curled on the ground completely unresponsive when I found him...I thought he was dead. I Flew to the vets with Toby and she put him on an IV, fluid and steriods. It is now Sat morning and there is not much improvment. In fact yesterday when I visited him he appeared stronger and more "with it" than today. Toby has not exactly woke up since the accident. He opens his eyes a little. When liquids are squirted into his mouth he will usually swallow and lick his lips. He moves some, can stand for seconds when placed on his legs but is basically unresponsive. Is there anything I can do to help his recovery? My vet seems to think he will recover but after seeing him today I'm so down...all I can do is cry and think if only, if only I had noticed the escape sooner, if only the horses had not been near the fence, if only Toby had .... well, if only. Please, has anyone had a dog that has been injured like my Toby? What can I do to help him? Will he recover? Is he in pain? PLease help Last edited by sude1957; 08-30-2008 at 09:36 AM. |

| Thanks I appreciate your thoughts and prayers. Please do pray for Toby, he is the sweetest little baby in the world. I want to help him so much and I don't know what to do. I trust my vet, but this is my baby and I NEED to help him...and I guess I need some sort of support group or I wouldn't be reaching out to stangers. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh, gosh! My eyes just teared up reading this! Your poor little man! BUT, the body is an amazing thing - and the skull is amazingly protective. It may take some time, but he could very well make a full recovery - he really could. The fact that he has opened his eyes, swallowed, licked, can stand a bit - these are all very good signs, really. The best thing you can do is visit him and talk to him and place your hands on him - let him know about all the love and healing you're sending his little body. And, all us YT'ers will send OURS as well! There is a section here where you can request "special thoughts" - so feel free to post there too, so more people can send Toby some love. Please keep us updated when you can.

| Sending lots of love and healing prayers for your little Toby. It may just take him alot longer to heal-due to the extent of the injury.

| I am very sorry toby was hurt . This is very heartbreaking, and I will pray for his recovery. Has the vet done any tests to see what is going on with the injury? Any exrays? Did the vet make sure he does not have any skull fractures, or bleeding in the brain? I ask this because I think it will determine his future prognosis of his injury. I feel so sad for toby and his family.

| Dear sude1957 I'm sorry to hear about your accident! It always hurts to have any of the kids in trouble. I am GLAD GLAD GLAD to hear that your vet thinks he will get through this. I suggest that you think about that and just let her treat him! It was serious, obviously, but go ahead and wait! Don't give up on Toby!!!! | OMG that is so scarey. I'm guessing that his brain is swollen and it will just take time. My prayers go out for your little one. |
