Oh, gosh! My eyes just teared up reading this! Your poor little man! BUT, the body is an amazing thing - and the skull is amazingly protective. It may take some time, but he could very well make a full recovery - he really could. The fact that he has opened his eyes, swallowed, licked, can stand a bit - these are all very good signs, really.
The best thing you can do is visit him and talk to him and place your hands on him - let him know about all the love and healing you're sending his little body.
