| dreams..why do we have them ok i woke up only 30 minutes after i fell asleep at 6 a.m. from a nightmare...It was bad, about my little 6 year old and hubby, I woke up crying, and swinging at someone....followed by a major anxiety attack. ..why do we have such bad dreams like this? I cant tell you what it was about, I just cant. It really shook me.

| I'm so sorry you had that. I don't usually have nightmares anymore, but at the end of my pregnancy I had them all the time. One in particular, I was my moms friend when she was a child and I was witnessing all the bad things that happened to her in her childhood. She had a really rough childhood. VERY scary!!!!

| That sure must have been frightening for you....I've never had nightmares but have had dreams that aren't pleasant...I hate those dreams where you know it DIDN'T happen but you still carry the emotions around all day as if it really did and can't shake it... Just keep repeating, "It was only a dream..It's only a dream"

| all right - I have 2 things to tell you. First of all, your dreams are a way of working our your worries. They don't always mean just what you would think. For instance. You could dream your 6 year old was kidnapped and maybe all your worried about is that you don't seem as close and your sad that he is growing up. don't know what exactly your dream was or what is going on in your life but usually looking for symbolism works best as in dreams, things are rarely what they seem. Second. I have done this since I was a little child. YOU are in control of your dreams. If something happens you don't like - YOU can control that. You can even wake yourself up which is usually what happens to me but then I don't allow the dream to control me, I think up a happy ending and try to go back to sleep with that knowledge. And anything goes in a dream. You can even have supernatural powers if you want. For example, if I dreamed my son flew out of a plane, I could dream that I jumped out and could fly and save him or that I could put a parachute on and save him whatever. So now, go ahead and make that dream a happy ending -there is a way to do it just use your imagination! |

| I think dreams do have a purpose. They allow our brain to work through all of the stuff of life. Sometimes, that stuff gets mixed up with things we hear or see. I know there have been times if I see something on TV that shook me, a part of that will end up in a dream or nightmare, usually totally out of context! I know, sometimes they seem so real and it takes all day to convince yourself that they are not real.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I swear by an Indian Dreamcatcher. I have one by the head of my bed and I rarely have dreams anymore. My husband started a few months ago having really bad nightmares and borrowed mine, I started having dreams again and his stopped. So I went and got one for me. Now I am not a superstitious person but they help us.

| I don't like bad dreams either. Thanks for that interesting explanation about them. I'll try it next time I have one.
