| Anyone have experience with Adderall? I am interested in talking with anyone that has taken Adderall, Adderall XR or Vyvanse. I have been on Adderall XR for 7 wks but have terrible mood swings and anxiety. Dr took me off of it this week because I asked him to but he wanted to keep me on it and just lower my dosage.. I am unsure of what to do..Do I switch to regular Adderall or try the new Vyvanse...So many questions.. I love what Adderall does for me until it starts to ware off and the side effects hit me bad.. I was on Adderall XR 30 mg per day..Anybody with experience? |

| I'm raising my nephew, he has been on ADHD meds since he was 5. He is now 14. We tried the adderal with him when he was around 8, he had what they call a intollerance to it. He got a weird tonge rolling thing and had terrible mood swings. We put him on Concerta and he has been ok with that. He also take generic ritilan 2 times a day on top of the concerta. My new dr. wanted to try the Vyvanse, oh my god, what a mistake that was. This child turned into a horrible monster. He threw things in school, started swearing horribly, threatened people, etc. This was in 2 weeks. I took him off it myself, and told the dr. we were putting him back on the others. Vyvanse is a longer lasting form of Adderal...so if you are having symptoms with that...chances are you'll have even more with the Vyvanse. Good luck with what ever route you take. |

| I don't have any personal experience with Adderall. That said, I am a clinical social worker and had a lot of experience with patients' taking that and other medications. The biggest thing I learned is that the same medication can affect different people in different ways. Also, while medications can cause adverse affects, your body does take some time to adjust to medications. Just because you're experiencing side effects DOES NOT MEAN you always will or that medication is not for you. Unfortunately sometimes it's best to give medications a chance (a few weeks to a few months, depending on the medication) and see then how it's affecting you. Regardless, make sure to COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR DOCTOR! I've had more patients than I can count that didn't like how their meds were affecting them and just decided to adjust their dosage (either take less, take more, or stop taking any at all). DO NOT DO THAT! There are many medications that can really negatively affect you if you stop cold turkey, consult your doctor before making any changes. I always told my patients (and I'd tell friends the same) I didn't go to med school I don't have the knowledge or answers, neither do you. They're doctors for a reason. I really hope you work everything out and find the right medicine for you! If there's anything I can do to help just let me know!

| I agree with mblab. I too only have 2nd had knowledge because I'm a teacher and a few of my students have tried this for ADHD. While it's been successful for some students it hasn't for others. You do need to give it a try, but if it's not working, talk to your doctor and have him/her switch your medication. |

From what I'd heard the XR can affect people differently. In the end though, it's probably best to find something that works for you. If you're experiencing bad side effects the positive effects of the meds may not even be worth it! I say either try a lower dosage or switch meds all together. From what you're describing, you were having rather severe reactions, enough that you were smart to stop taking it (given the option). See if a lower dosage effects you the same (side effect and positive effect wise). If not another med might work. I don't know anything about Vyvanse other than that it's rather new (and since I was working with the state we didn't have that readily available so I'm not familiar with it). BEST OF LUCK!!!

| yes, i have taken adderall before but prolly for all the wrong reasons.... to lose weight... it does take away my appetite but the mood swings and irritability were horrible for me too. I mean i would get just sooooo irritated at the tiniest little things.. i would actually look for someone to get mad at lol.... my poor bf was a victim many times lol.... since then i havent taken it... Since then i have taken phentermine from time to time for weight loss but that is prolly not good either.... phentermine IMO is alot like adderall but not as intense... but phentermine is not for ADHD right? Sorry im of no help but good luck in finding something that works for you.. |

YT Addict | My sister took Adderal and she eventually after about 3 or 4 years I think, had to peel herself off of it. I don't know if the drug itself has any addictive ingredients in it, but she was highly addicted. We almost wanted to commit her to get her off of it. It wasn't really doing anything for her anymore that it was supposed to do, but she depended on the pill horribly for whatever reason. She doesn't have an addictive personality either so it was out of character for her. I don't know what kind exactly she took, it was the one you can take it every 6 hours? Or something along that line. Little blue pill. I personally think it made her more 'mood swing'y when she was 'withdrawing' from not having it. She wanted to take it more like every 3 hours and after the first year or so they finally told her whoever lives in her house with her has to be 'set' and speak to the doctor about administering the pill to her so she won't take them all the time..
