| Counting Calories How many of you have done this, or still do this? I am not overweight, although in the past few months I have gained more than I would like to. I am 5'8 and my whole life I've weighed around 120-125 lbs. It's all due to fabulous metabolism! I have never had to watch what I eat, and I've never had a problem fitting into any of my old clothes! Well, last night I realized I have been putting on some weight. I weighed myself and I am now 140 lbs. Last summer I got measured for my bridesmaid dress for my best friend's wedding.... the wedding is in 3 and a half weeks, and I can hardly get the dress done up, let alone being able to breathe when it's on After talking to my cousin last night (same age as me, but single mother of 3 kids) we both decided we need to lose weight. She told me she has started counting calories. She found a calculator online to figure out how much she should be taking in to lose 1 lb per week. It said 1650 for her. I tried and it said 1376 for me. I would also like to get to bed early enough that I can wake up first thing in the morning to take Layla for a walk, and then also do a walk in the evenings. Does anyone have any tips for me? Any success stories? I need motivation!

Therapy Dog Donating Member | Well I'm not a nutrionist but I did lose 41 pounds two years ago and have kept it off but I swear it's easier to lose it then keep it off that's for sure. Yes, Yes, Yes it's the old adage - calories in and calories out..even the Biggest Looser peeps preach this constantly. You can still do low fat, low carb, etc., etc. but it's the calories you put into your body vs. the calories you burn through everyday life and exercise. Oh my..I hate to break it to you but the older you get the harder it gets to keep the weight off..your metabolism slows down tons. Good luck and hope you are able to fit into that dress soon. Hey I love the new show Cook Yourself Thin that's on Lifetime they say you can drop a dress size in 6 weeks if you follow the recipes. You can check them out on line or get their book.

Therapy Dog Donating Member | Take your ideal weight x 10 and that's how many calories you should take in a day. Example: if you want to be 130 pounds take 130x10 = 1300 calories you should have in a day. But if you exercise every day and say you burn off 200 calories then you can take in 1500 calories..does this make sense?

| Yeah that makes sense! I was kind of hoping I'd take after my mom... she's 47, had two kids, doesn't exercise, can eat large amounts of ANYTHING, and she's a size 3

| That's the only way I can loose weight. I lost 20lbs two years ago by counting calories and have kept it off. That's how I live my life. My matabolism stinks. If I go over 1,500 I gain a lb. I do my best to stick around 1,200 daily I am 5.4 and now weigh 130. This is where I want to be any less people tell me I look sick. Of course low carbs as well. It's funny whenever I do eat carbs, pasta, bread etc I feel so bloated! Both I could live on too. |

| Sounds like we are built the same. I'm just about 5'11' and try to stay around 123. My metabolism has always been good too but at 36, I definitely have to exercise now. I gained a ton of weight this winter and just got it off so I totally know how you feel. It stinks! I used to be addicted to FitDay.com to count calories. You can also use it to keep track of nutrition, exercise and goals. I have an addictive personality so that site is now a no no for me but it's a good site and it's free. Good luck!

| I lost 20lbs this past fall by doing Couch to 5k. Its a walk/run program that is FABULOUS for those who are out of shape. I am still overweight so I plan on picking back up the running here VERY soon. So far I have done two 5ks (the last one I just ended up walking with Max... but hey I did another one!). Cool Running :: running run training marathon runners jogging jogger joggers runner run fitness exercise diet weight loss nut... is the website and there are podcasts that you can download for free to let you know when to run and walk. One recommendation is to drink LOTS of water, cut back on soda, and have healthy snacks around the house. Look up new recipes. Switch to whole grains, cook more vegs, proteins, and try to restrict the amount of carbs you eat (and keep them complex). If I want cookies or something, I just grab a "100 calories" pack. I have a TON of those in the house so I am not tempted to buy a huge bag of cookies. Also, whenever you have free time (while at work, watching tv (commercials), cooking), throw in a few jump and jacks, push ups, sit ups, etc. You would be amazed how much you can randomly throw in your day and how many calories you can burn! Hope that helps!

| Thanks for all the support! I have started the online food diary and tonight I am going to the dog park with Layla It has been really interesting to look up all the things I'm used to eating and drinking and seeing how many calories are in everything!

Also, Thor helps me get a lot of exercise. When we play fetch, I stand, then squat to pick up the ball, then stand... it's actually quite tiring. I also chase him around my office after hours, which I know sounds very odd, but he LOVES it.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I have a few things you can do: 1.) Water, water and more water. NO soda, not even diet. If you like juice, water it down. 2.) Eat all the green leafy stuff you want. Dark green vegetables: all you can eat (no butter of course). They have nonfat butter spray that you can substitute real butter for(I can't believe it's not butter, tastes just like butter but no fat) 3.) Eat 6 times a day (small portions). 4.) Eat only light or non fat. 5.) No fried foods. 6.) Vinegar on salads or non fat dressing. How bad does that sound? How long before the wedding?
