Default Counting Calories

How many of you have done this, or still do this?
I am not overweight, although in the past few months I have gained more than I would like to. I am 5'8 and my whole life I've weighed around 120-125 lbs. It's all due to fabulous metabolism! I have never had to watch what I eat, and I've never had a problem fitting into any of my old clothes!
Well, last night I realized I have been putting on some weight. I weighed myself and I am now 140 lbs. Last summer I got measured for my bridesmaid dress for my best friend's wedding.... the wedding is in 3 and a half weeks, and I can hardly get the dress done up, let alone being able to breathe when it's on
After talking to my cousin last night (same age as me, but single mother of 3 kids) we both decided we need to lose weight. She told me she has started counting calories. She found a calculator online to figure out how much she should be taking in to lose 1 lb per week. It said 1650 for her. I tried and it said 1376 for me.
I would also like to get to bed early enough that I can wake up first thing in the morning to take Layla for a walk, and then also do a walk in the evenings.
Does anyone have any tips for me? Any success stories? I need motivation!
