| The Golden Compass Has anyone been to see this movie yet? I thought that it looked decent and had considered going to see it, but someone sent me some info regarding story and now I'm not so sure I want to support it. Apparently the books on which the movie was based were a triology written by an aethiest author and the whole underlying theme and motiviation is to kill God and live in anarchy? http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/compass.asp Never heard of the books or story until this so I'm just wondering if anyone has seen it and if this does seem to be what it's all about? |

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | I've been told by several people whove seen it that while there is an athiest undertone, its not as huge as everyone makes it out to be. They've said that you really can't tell at all unless you've known about it before hand.

| I think whoever wrote that is off their rocks. I never saw 'Narnia' as some religious trip. It's just a good movie. I think 'Golden Compass' will be the same. Sometimes, you just don't need to read so deeply into these things. Or atleast that's how I feel.

I have no clue, this is the first I'm hearing of it. All I know of the story is what I've seen in previews for the movie, which I considered going to see. But if the underlying theme is for God to be killed so that everyone can live in Anarchy, I don't want to go see that! S'why I was trying to get opinions from people who have seen it and can tell me about it. | |

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | I really have no desire to see it anyway, so I can't really tell you what its about. But apperantly its very hard to explain the plot.

| Inside Edition did a peice on it over the weekend all about the athesit things and it being anti- God. My grandchildren never saw any of the Harry Potter movies because of the heavy witchraft undertones, wizards and the like and won't see this one either. Their little minds are too fresh and pure to fill with some of the stuff in movies today and as parents and grandparents, it is our job to protect them. That's all I can say without turning it into a religious discussion. |

| My opinion - It is just a movie/book! I get so tired of everyone freaking out about a FICTIONAL story and trying to make it out to be something real and dangerous

| I never said it was real or dangerous. Rap music is not real or dangerous, it's fictional--I don't let my kid listen to that either. I was just trying to see what the movie itself actually was about so I can make a decision on whether or not I want to let my daughter see it. |

(Not that you said/though that, Misty. I'm just making a general statement as it's what a lot of people who oppose the movie think.) I'd like to see it!

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | i'm going to read the books and watch the movie just to see what all the hubbub is. if no one had made a big deal of this i probably wouldn't be interested. i watched and read all the narnia and harry potter bookes/movies too. I did see the religious undertones in narnia but saw nothing political or whatever in Harry Potter. Its just a great fictional series.
