| ![]() Baaaa Can't people think for themselves anymore? I never understand the idea that a book or a movie will change what anyone thinks. I was raised Catholic...am I still Catholic? No. Did it have anything to do with books or movies? No. Wylie's mom posted an excellent post about this movie and the way people view religion. In fact, I've quoted it a few times to my family, I loved it so much. It's exactly how I've always felt but didn't know how to express it. I will tell you though, the more strict the parent the more you risk your children rebelling. Overly religious usually equals very narrow minded, sadly. The Harry Potter books started so many kids reading again. It was absolutely wonderful! In fact, all this bad press the movie is getting is even making more people read the book. Heck, I thought the movie looked boring(Nicole Kidman can't act to save her life IMHO). But all the drama about it makes me consider renting the darn thing when it's finally on dvd. If anyone out there is leaving it up to movies to raise their children then egads, the world is at an end ![]() I did see Enchanted this past weekend. If you want mindless enjoyment, check that out. It did have pretty dresses in it and anytime I get a big ol' bucket of popcorn I'm a happy camper. Movies are a major source of enjoyment for our family. We can't wait for the new Wil Smith movie out in a week!!!! Zombie/vampires I've heard.

I definately agree with you 100% on you children being more rebellious if you are overly strict with them--and trust me when I say I am far from overly religious. ![]() ![]() And hubby says he agrees with you on NK not being able to act....but he loves her so (for looks) that he said you could just mute the TV and not worry about it. ![]() ![]() Last edited by BamaFan121s; 12-05-2007 at 05:01 PM. | |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | ![]() Well, our school nurse said that she saw on Good Morning America, or the Today Show...something like that...that they gave a review of the movie. They said the movie is very mild compared to the books. Parents go see the movie first, think it's okay and allow their kids to see it. Then, the kids want to read the books and that's where it gets bad. Like I stated earlier, there are 3 books and each book gets deeper and deeper. This is taken from snopes.com... The movie has been dumbed down to fool kids and their parents in the hope that they will buy his trilogy where in the end the children kill God and everyone can do as they please. I wish that I could copy/paste what is posted on snopes but unfortunately, the site does not allow it. I strongly urge you to read what is written. JMO from a narrow minded uptight luke-warm Christian. ![]()

| ![]() Ive watched Passion of the Christ and it hasnt turned me into a christian lol...I doubt this movie will turn me or my children into atheists..lol..I read the Narnia stories as a kid and never would have thought of it as having religious undertones...havent re-watched it as an adult...I wonder if it was watched without anyone knowing about the authors beliefs if anyone would question this movie?? Who knows the religious beliefs of other authors?? Just because the author says this is what he wrote the movie about dosent mean that other authors dont have religious undertones in books they wrote and didnt go public with it. His books havent been questioned all these years..until he told the public what HE wrote the stories about...how many christian children have read these books over the years (not knowing the author was atheist) and turned atheist...probably none... | ![]() We went to see the movie tonight and loved it! After reading the reviews on fandango.com, we decided to go ahead and take the kids. I was prepared to walk out with my younger son if it got to be too PG-13. But he was fine, he hid eyes once only because something jumped out at the screen. Nothing more violent happened that he hadn't seen before in other movies. My 9 year old was very much into it, he was glued to the screen, my 6 year old was completely bored through most of the movie because he just isn't old enough to follow a story line. The graphics and animation were awesome! It had us talking about it long after it was over. There was absolutly nothing in it that gave me an antigod feeling. SO much of this stuff is hype I think. I'm sure the books are much worse like everyone says, but the movie...it's really ok to me. Last edited by chloeandj; 12-09-2007 at 10:35 PM. |

| ![]() My 10 year old daughter went to see this this movie this weekend with a birthday girl and her family...I am happy to report that Emily hasnt converted to Atheism!!! LOL...she talked and talked and talked about this movie forever..she really enjoyed it and ranked it right up there with Enchanted!! The news is reporting that it "bombed" due to it cost 180 millions to make the film and it only pulled in a measly 26 million its first weekend...so in that respect it did bomb as they were hopefull it would bring in more money its first and most important weekend.. http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/reuters/0...office_col_189 Dawn |

| ![]() I went and saw the movie this past weekend and I didnt think it had anything bad in it and I was keeping an eye out for it. I think the movie was a fun movie to watch and the special effects were awesome. Nicole Kidman looked great in that movie- kinda makes me want to go blond again ![]()
