| ![]() When the Davinci code came out, everyone freaked out about that too. I can't tell you how many churches had series of sermons over why the Davinci code was not true. Okay...it's fictional...possibly even a theory...but no one ever said it was real so why were there sermons about it? I watched the movie and thought it was very interesting, thought it was a great story, and like I said maybe a theory to consider but it obviously was not true. Things like that are what I do not understand...why make such a big deal about fiction?

| ![]() The author of the Golden Compass has admitted that he hates CS Lewis (a Christian) so he wrote a series of children's books that would compare to Narnia but at the end of the 3 book trilogy, the children in the book kill God. The movie is trying to generate interest in the books so people will go out and read the books, which are more explicit in the athiest view than the movie. |

| ![]() The interview I saw with the author he says, and I quote "I hope to Kill God in the hearts of children". Anyone who can say that in any context will never have their book read or movie watched by my children. I am proud to say I am a Christian but I am not closed minded. This movie though opens questions my children don't need to be asking right now. As an adult you can do what you want and expose yorself to what you want but as a parent it is my job to try and limit what my children see. We each need to make our own choices. |

| ![]() I first read The Golden Compass about 10 years ago. It took years for the second and third to come out. Not having heard about the author's opinions on religion beforehand, I never even really noticed those atheist views within the books! All I can say that in terms of a fictional novel, they were really great entertaining storys! Having heard about the controversy, all I can recommend is for you all to treat it as a story/movie to enjoy. Don't look that deeply into it! Enjoy it like you'd enjoy lord of the rings, harry potter, chronicles of narnia, etc! Peggy |

| ![]() My husband and i were planning to take the kids. I told my husband about this thread as i hadn't heard this before, and he said so? everybody is entitled to their opinion, why does he have to believe in god to make a good movie, and shrugged me off. LOL |

![]() Like someone mentioned, it may not be obvious in the movie that my kid would even catch it....THAT was all I wanted to know and what I was trying to determine. | |

| ![]() Well i think if you decide to go watch it and see something that makes you uncomfortable, it is the perfect opportunity to have a discussion with your daughter, reinforcing your beliefs as a family and still letting her know that there are other viewpoints in the world. Frankly i feel we have much worse things that our children are watching already. Have you seen Grim adventures of billy and mandy? This cartoon has down right disgusted me on a more than one occasion. |

Everyone has their opinions about this movie and it is up to the individuals as to whether they will take their children to see it. If you want to go see the movie or take your children to see the movie this is up to you!!!! I for one have a hard enough time explaining everyday events to my son whether he has seen something on TV, heard something at school, seen something on a video game, etc.....HE WORRIES ABOUT EVERYTHING!!!! So with that being said, I do not plan to take him to see this movie. Perhaps one day I will feel differently but for right now the last thing I want is my son to worry about someone trying to kill God. (this would really upset him!!!) I am not giving anyone a hard time that wants to go see the movie so, please don't give me a hard time that I do not want my child to see it. It's each individuals choice!!!

| ![]() I'm sorry i take it all back! ![]() I did not realize this movie was rated PG-13! I assumed this was a children's movie and would be age appropriate with the issues, obviously with a rating like that, this is not a movie that will be geared towards children. Hubby and i will have to see it alone before we let the kiddies see it. |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | ![]() Well, our elementary school library carries the books so I've checked out book #1. It is a series of 3 books and the undertones progress with each book and they say the 3rd book is the worst...sooooo...we shall see!

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | ![]() This is kind of....not even on topic. but...I was just thinking about it. I have a friend who is athiest. and it doesn't really make sense to me that this guy would want to kill God, because athiests believe that there IS no God, not that the God is bad. So....IDK!
