| What Should Be Done With "Pet Store Puppies"? Recently, someone said to me, "The puppies in the pet store, are there, through no fault of their own. They are innocent, living beings. Don't they deserve a good home? What do you think should be done with them?" I have to admit, I had no answer. So, I am asking everyone here for their thoughts. What should be done with these puppies? I mean, we all know, that if we buy them, we only encourage the Millers and BYB's. So, please believe, I am not advocating buying them, in order to provide them loving homes. What are your thoughts? |

| I think no matter how much it is preached not to buy from a petstore theres always going to be people who do it. I really doubt any puppies at the pet shop get returned to the puppy mills because they werent sold.

| I was thinking of something the other day reguarding this actually. Go to apply at a petstore that sells puppies, try to become the person that does the deals w/ the brokers/puppy mills. If you get that position, then it's in your hands. Then be a bad "business partner" to the broker, dont return calls, dont call them, etc. I don't know how possible it is to do something like that, and if I didn't have to work I would do that just to kill time. Also, put flyers on cars in the parking lots that inform about petstore puppies (dont get caught). Alls we can really do is inform people. |

| That's a really good question, and I've often wondered that myself. In fact, I was in a pet store recently and felt so bad for the puppies there. In order to stop the puppy mills, people have to stop buying from the pet stores, but then what happens to those poor little puppies? I don't have an answer, but maybe someone else does. |

Yes, I agree with what you are saying, but, it doesn't answer the question, posed.

Ever go in on a day when puppies have just arrived? They are happy and playing...go back in a week or so, and they don't even raise their little heads.

If the law gets involved, the stores can always get shut down and the pups can be taken to shelters and adopted. Or steal the puppies from the petstores? I'm not for stealing, but these owners are already immoral enough, from creating a sick animal to breaking families hearts, so I really dont care if they get stolen from.

| For starters I think there should be a law that states all pet stores (until they are eliminated) must have Vet on staff or at least a qualified Vet Tech to check everything there is to check on these puppies when they first come in and every week thereafter. Blood work might have to be done once a month. That the puppies must have at least 1/2 to an hour every morning and evening out for playtime. And at least 1/2 of the playtime outdoors with fresh air. It won't stop them, but they need more rules to follow!!!

| The problem is, you have to stop the people breeding these puppies. That way, the pet stores can no longer buy them. Really, the only way I can think of is to keep nagging the congress people to do something about it. It would take alot of people constantly bugging them to get their attention. Also, anytime someone knows of this type of breeder, they should be reported to their local area A.S.P.C.A. group. Or, call your local animal shelter, and county health officials to complain. The only way to end it is to get it where it starts. |
