Also, anytime someone knows of this type of breeder, they should be reported to their local area A.S.P.C.A. group. Or, call your local animal shelter, and county health officials to complain. The only way to end it is to get it where it starts.

That's very true, but in the meantime, the puppies need to have their health looked after and the more regulations and rules you put on these stores they less profit will be made and hopefully not worth it!

That's why laws need to be passed. If they pass laws to make these stores follow stricter rules and guidelines, they will eventually stop selling these puppies. People who do buy from these stores and have unhealthy puppies need to report the stores to the Better Business Bureau also. What it boils down to is that people need to complain, complain, complain to all the right people. I think Texas has already enforced alot of these laws.

I agree again, but I don't think Congress will ever do anything about it. They can't handle what's on their plates now without making it worse. Maybe if we could get our local laws changed it would probably be easier.

You're right! I think it actually can start right online. Anytime people come across one of these breeders while looking for a dog, they should be reported. Also, the local police CAN be called when you see animal abuse or unsanitary conditions. The calls might take lower priority, but they do at least get the animals out of there and cite the people. My brother is a police officer and he has had to shut people down many times.

SO LET THIS BE A CALL OUT NOW! Anytime, anyone, no matter who you are, if you see anything suspicious, any kind of cruelty anything that is just not right, then call your local humane society, don't just stop there, also call law enforcement. If someone tells you of something like this, just don't say aw poor things, report it!!!! Any maybe we should attend a few our City and County Councils and ask they make tougher penalties.

In all actuality. I do not believe in my heart its gonna ever stop and even if it stops the pet stores, People will still do it and just sell to the public, because I know where I bought my last dog before my yorkies was a puppy mill. But Id never thought of or heard of it before so I was unaware this happens. But there are just too many of them now and too many people like me. That will buy unaware. I dont mind puppy mills raising and selling puppies if they would only keep their places clean, the puppies and parents were all taken care of and kept clean and the moms not bred to death. Once or twice with the same mom is enough, then keep her in good health and have her spayed and sell her to someone. If a puppy has had 2 or 3 litters and have all been taken care of they shouldnt be more than 3 or 4 yrs old when they have them spayed and would still have a lot of good years left to be a pet and lots of people would buy them, just dont ask so much for them, they have already got their money out of em selling a couple of litters. thats like having a litter once a year for each mom. To me thats the only way I could raise dogs. It is cruel when you see these moms so skinny and sickly looking. But actually most of the babies are half way taken care of long enough to sell them. Then people would be buying healthy dogs all the time and the parents wouldnt be bred to death. As far as the puppies, I have to admit, I've thought plenty of times when I've read these post not to buy from pet stores. They are babies and cant help themselves. They deserve a better life and I just feel sorry for them. JMO. Then pet stores also ask a hefty price and that would keep lots of people from taking them to a good homes when they can buy from reputable breeders just as cheap and sometimes cheaper. Does anyone realize how much profit these pet stores are making off of these pets and the breeders really dont make that much by time they have to sell them cheaper than they could if they bred good dogs and just sold them to the public in the first place. pet stores make enough money off of pet supplies. they dont need to sell pets to make big money. sorry for such a long post but I just had to get it all in.

as hard as it is, i dont think ANYONE should buy them. put puppymills out of business. i know that is virtually impossible because some people refuse to be educated and things like that. but still. i cant even go into petstores anymore because i know i will feel incredibly guilty leaving without helping those poor babies. and just think what their moms life is like...

oops, one more thing. Has people here ever noticed how the pet stores smell in the area these pets are kept? They stink to me and thats why when I go in one to buy supplies I cant stand the smell long enough to stay in that area. pet stores need to have someone come clean cages every night and let the animals out to play at least for a while, while they clean their cages. Thats why I hate going to pet stores even for supplies, usually the animals are right up front and yu have to go by and smell it to get anything. JMO but they stink to me.

There needs to be a law placed that makes it illegal for pet stores to sell puppies & kittens in the first place. Once there are no stores to sell to, the mills will not have a place to sell the pups to except private parties. They can not sell in bulk so they would need to either bring the selling price down or cut back on the number of puppies they produce. Then the cash cow goes to pasture and the mortgage don't get paid.

There are laws against pet cruelty but does it not appy to pet stores? To me it is cruel to keep them caged.

Sad What about the other pets being sold in pet stores?

I mean, not only every pet store is overcrowding with puppies.. What about kittens, ferrets, rabbits and other small animals? (I even saw ads with monkeys and hedgehogs for sale....). Where all these other animals come from? Some of the kittens or guinea pigs are not going to be sold. What happens to them then? Sometimes when you think about it, humans make the lives of animals a living hell..... Sad to say

I included kittens in my post to be a no-no as well as puppies. I've never seen it where I live but I would include pygmy goat, potbelly pigs, primates etc. to my no-no list.

I might start a YT War but here I go....

Mice, Rats, Rabbits, Ferrets, Hedgehogs, Chinchillas, Guinnea Pigs, Hamsters, Birds, Fish & Reptiles, etc. for me, seems to be ok since these are types of animals that requires to be confined for their safety. I can't imagine allowing any of the above to have free run of a house. I do get really upset and have spoken to various store managers if I see several dead fish in one tank. I've never seen anything else deceased in pet stores (unless you count crickets!)

I know I'm gonna hear it from the Rabbit, Farret & Iguana people so I'm bracing myself!

I like your idea of the puppies being taken to shelters and adopted, that's great thinking!
