| i paid $650 for my champion sired yorkie in southern nj. i almost paid $1500 for a morkie. (yorkie/maltese) my fiance' had a fit and stopped me. he said no way when our pure breed was much less. i think it's an impulse buy. you can't resist their cute lil faces. |

| idk I think misinformed when we got Tila we didn't know she was $2000 (breathe ha ha) it wasn't until later that I saw that they were available for 400 ha ha but Tila was from and ALL show dog pedigre with MANY champions so whatever even though we don't show her ha ha but we live in Cali in a place where the houses and everything else is RIDICULOUSLY over priced (a fixer upper for $400,000, a crappy 1 bedroom apartment for over $2100 a month?) | Matter of choice I love the breed and wanted a purebred so I would have a pretty good idea what I was getting. With mixed breeds, you never know. And I think its a preference in what you do with your disposable income. I quit smoking 8 months ago and now all the money I've been saving from quitting is going towards my new addiction, my little furbabies

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Congratulations are the quitting smoking, as a "trying to quit smoker" (outside only) I know how tough that was to do, but what a way to spend the money, on one of the best things you can do for your health. No regrets, huh? When we got Ruby the prices ranged from $400 to $1500, generally, but there was one site I visited with prices around $10,000. OMG

| This topic has been discussed many times. There is such a big range, it does seem strange. I think the cheaper ones are the exception rather than the rule. Perhaps the breeders do not realize that they can get more, or perhaps they just aren't in it for the money. There doesn't seem to be a shortage of quality yorkies, yet there are sites that are asking $10,000 ond more for very tiny little dogs that cannot possibly be healthy or have a long life expectancy. I believe people who buy those are not interested in the dog as a companion, but more for status, an oddity for attention. |

| Well, I did not care how much Mia cost because I thought, "I am paying for an animal I will share the next 10+ years with. This is not something to be stingy about." We still didn't pay much for her, about 900. She was the first girl we saw, and I really wanted a baby girl. We kept talking about her when we were driving from one breeder to another. That's how we decided. Then I went crazy on the insurance, supplies, training books and whatnot. Including the vet bills I would say we spent at least another 1000, which I felt free to spend since Mia could have cost a lot more. Including everything I spent on her, the whole experience still seems like a bargain because the other Yorkies we inquired about were priced up to 5000.

| it greatly depends on where you are located some of the reasons yorkies and other small dogs are so high i think are because smaller dogs usually don't have that many babys at once maybe 3 or 4 compared to larger dogs that can have 10-14, the lineage..ch parents also size the smaller a yorkie is the more they sale for and so on i payed $500 each for both of mine here in al but they didn't exactly come from top of the line show breeders i guess. most of the more expensive puppies are older when they leave their homes like they should be, have all shots worming health guarentees family history parents that have been tested /checked for genetic defaults and so on. |

| The important thing is, do your homework, take your time and find a good breeder you get along with. Prices will vary, but if you want a purebred, be prepared to spend a little money (not that you'll necessarily need to). I also noticed prices differ in several areas of the country, but I'm not sure why- I ran into this same thing when adopting my purebred Larador Retriever 4 years ago. There were puppies that ranged from hundreds, to thousands of dollars. It seemed so daunting at first. So I took my time and found a very good home breeder who just loved their dogs, loved the breed, and were more interested in producing good representations of the breed, rather than making a ton of money. They were there to answer my questions, help me out, gave my puppy a health guarantee, all of his shots, AKC registration, full money back guarantee if there was ever a diagnosis of hip displasia , and so on. Plus, our puppy came from a line of champions and all this for the grand price of $600. My lab is so beautiful and so well behaved, I would have paid much more, but I took a lot of time to find them- these breeders were a hidden gem. When I started researching Yorkies, I quickly found that not only was the average price generally higher, but the RANGE in price was huge. So I did the same thing- did my homework, and found a good breeder, much like the one I found for my Lab, etc. and now little Sadie is coming home soon. Plus, having a good relationship with the breeder is a must. You have to get along, because you'll need them!. I was wanting a Yorkie for about 4 or 5 years- I researched a ton of breeders, but the stars just seemed to line up with Christy and Sadie. The whole situation just seemed to fall in place so I consider myself lucky. I also have a father in law who breeds German Shepherds, and he charges thousands but if you knew what he went through for these dogs, you'd not be offended by the price. He travels all over the place for them, puts all these dogs through general training in Germany, Shutzund training, he has trials and shows at his house (lives on a farm), shows them, is so selective of which pairs to breed, etc. and I don't think the man has had a full night of sleep in years, but the dogs he produces are just beautiful and the majority of them have gone on to do service work. If you ask me, paying for one of his fully trained, socialized puppies is a steal- I've seen people charge $20-30,000for puppies with champion lineage- it can get pretty crazy. So be patient, and do your homework!!

| I wanted specific things I wanted specific things and wanted to know about the history, health, and longevity of the entire line. My breeder does a lot of things that are very expensive for the health of her puppies. So to me...the money was worth it in less vet bills down the line and other things I wanted. suzie |
