| Help!! First day home... I just brought home my little Dasiy last night and I have a few questions.... First of all Potty training..... She is still young I know but what is the best way to do it? When I see her start to go in a place she is not supposed to I pick her up and put her on her potty pad. After about 4 times she went on it but a few hours later I put her back in her play pin on her potty pad and he climbed back on her bed and tried to go pee. I picked her up and said no and put her on her pad. I know it is going to take a while but do you have any tips or tricks? Am I doing it the right way? Also leaving her in her play pin..... When we brought her home she just slept and slept. I held her for a while and then put her in that for a while so she could sleep. She woke up a few times while she was out of her play pin to eat or go potty. we played with her for a while and when it was time to go to bed we put her in it. About a half an hour later my boyfriend heard her crying very loud. Now we had olny had her for a few hours and this was the first noise we heard out of her. He jumped out of bed so fast it woke me up. He thought something was wrong. But of course she was just lonley. He picked her up and I told him I thought we were just supposed to let her cry and go to sleep so she learns that bed time is bed time. (i could be wrong I think I read it somewhere) well we played with her for a while and then put her in her bed. She cried for a while but went to sleep. She had run of the house at her breeders house so I know he is not used to being in a little area. So i do understand that this is all new to her. Am I doing this right? Any tips? She cries everytime we put her in it. Please help guys!!!! Sorry this is so long..... |

| i have no clue on the potty training part, but i know about the play pin part. she is getting use to her new home. at night you might want to put her in a crate near your bed so she can see you. she will whine for a few nights until she starts feeling more comfortable. welcome and congrats on your new baby!

| sounds like you are on the right track. CONGRATULATIONS ON THE NEW BABY! Yes, if you see her trying to pee in the wrong places, get her attention by clapping, saying no no no, and placing her in the area where you want her to go, i.e. a pad. When she cries at night, just let her cry. Mine did it for a long time, before she realized she won't get her way by crying. It's hard and it's sad and you want to cry but she will be a better behaved doggie as a result.

| Rather than give my thoughts on housetraining, here's a link to a thread that includes alot of good advice from many here a yt. It also includes what I did to housetrain Ginger, since it worked for me! (Well, almost, she still goes inside at "dog club" sometimes, but that's the only place) http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...light=schedule As for as the play pen goes, I've never used one so can't offer any advice there. Anyway, sounds like you're off to a good start! Enjoy your new pup! |

| What I also did with Coco, if you want to call it a trick, is that every 20 min. I took her to her puppy pad (because pups have small bladders) and I would repeat the words "DO YOUR BUSINESS" until she went. That way she associated those words with her pee pee or poo, which then lead to a treat. She was potty trained within less than 3 weeks of me having her. Just take her to her pad and don't let her leave until she goes. That way she understands what you expect of her, when she is on the pad. Once she pees/poops, really get excited, give her a treat and play with her. So she knows that once she gives you what you want, she gets what she wants.

What kind of treats are good for her age? She is 6 weeks. Do you recomend one? where can I gt it? Someone told me once that they knew someone who gave their puppy so many treats that she died. It sounds crazy but could that be true? Thanks guys for your help.....I just want to be a good youkie mommy...

| Woah. 6 weeks. that kind of change everything, since most people don't get them until at least 10 weeks and most 12 or more. At her age, I would be more concerned with keeping her fed and warm and make sure her sugar level stays up. Put karo in her water and make sure she eats. Keep her in a confined area with pee pads Placed in the spots that she chooses to go, she is too young to learn much of anything for at least 6 weeks. If you go by the rule of people age times 7. She is less than a year old in human years. As for the crying at night, the more you pick her up, the longer she will cry. Make sure she is warm and has food. |

I know. I thought it was a little early. I was supposed to get her on the 28th but the breeder said she was ready early. She is also the runt of the litter and is about 1 lbs 3 oz. I wrap her up in her blanket at night so she stays warm. Do I give her the sugar water all the time? Or just when I see she is acting tired?

| Congrats on your baby we would love to see pics of her You got great advice in above posts Does your baby have a stuffed animal to sleep with? It might help her during the night, just make sure it doesnt have eyes/nose that she can chew off.

Yeah she is light in color. I think she has her dad's color who is a poodle and her mom's straight hair, her mom is a yorkie. I got her from a breeder in Paris California.

| You know 6 weeks can be early for SOME dogs, however i have had all mine at 6 or 7 weeks old with no problems at all! they also can DEFFINATLEY be potty trained at that age,all mine were.I know in USA most breeders wont re home pups until 12 weeks but in UK pups are re homed at 6,7 or 8 weeks and are totally fine.Congratulations on your new baby and welcome to YT |
