| It's probably his teeth. When they are getting their adult teeth and thee are baby teeth retained food becomes trapped. If he hasn't been neutered yet they may have to remove the retained teeth at that time. Sure is a different smell from that glorious baby breath.

| I just asked my vet the other day about my dogs breath. He laughed and said he didn't feel she had bad breath! But said I could use a water additive and it would benefit her breath and teeth. He said he has smelled some bad breath and she def had no bad breath. I differ in my opinion! Lol |

| His breath is probably bad due to teething and there is not much you can do. You probably need to start getting him used to getting his teeth brushed and that will help some.

| we have 4 small dogs and bad teeth kind of come with the territory ... Small dogs need their teeth cleaned and checked at least once a year ... We have tried absolutely every trick in the book: tooth gels, water additives ( careful with those - they ended us up in in dog ER with horrible tummy issues), all kinds of chews, brushing - I have tried it all and honestly ... I don't think there is a remedy that really works. Small breeds have bad teeth - and if you smell bad breath you should make an appointment with the vet - there is likely a dental issue ( retained puppy teeth, an infection ...) it is not at all unusual for small dogs to have dental issues very early in their life. Call around - there are huge price differences for dental cleanings ...It is hugely important to find a doggy dentist if you have a small breed dog ... Our dogs get nylabones and rope toys per recommendation of our vet - and they love to tear up their fleece blankets lol- we have powerful chewers but they still need their yearly dental... |

| Chewie IS predisposed. I actually hunted down her dam and sire, along with every ding on the breeder's record. Bad teeth. I didn't even understand until this post about doggy dentists. Chewie has a broken bottom tooth we discovered just friday evening. I have it on her record to discuss it with the vet for our follow up visit with her tummy issues. |

| with doggie dentist I mean a vet that also does teeth ( for a decent price :-) ) - we have a vet close to our home that is great for well visits and such but charges 3 times the amount our " doggie dentist" charges ( specialized practice who only does vaccinations and dentals) ...Normally vets also take care of teeth but it is worth getting some quotes and shop around when you have more than one little one ;-) a dog of any age can have a broken tooth- believe me you will never be able to tell by behavior even though it must hurt like crazy. I have fostered dozens of mill puppies over the years and can only recommend that you get the teeth of a puppy checked regularly ... dogs don't show pain the way we do...Some dogs have better teeth than others ... our vet owns a puppy from a show breeder ( ethical breeder- good reputation) - long pedigrees - no health issues and he told me that his girl has the worst teeth - had to get 2 molars pulled before age 2. |

YT 500 Club Member | I have three , and two have perfect teeth, perfect breath. But Izzy has had bad breath from almost the minute she turned 6 months old. The vet told me not to worry. I've tried every remedy. She doesn't stand for brushing well enough to get it done thoroughly. I've given her everything on the market. And her problem is she's just not as avid a chewer as the other two... so at a year old I took her to see about having her teeth cleaned. They said she was really too young for that. So I took her three weeks ago, she's now a little past 2 yrs, because her teeth were awful looking. She has beautiful white teeth again, and the smell went away for about a week. But it's back. I guess it's just her genes cause it's chronic.
