YT 2000 Club Donating Member | \it is kind of like the wild west out there. There are so many different health guarantees. Many many guarantees require you to return your puppy if a/b or c goes wrong - and then you do NOT get a refund - you get a replacement puppy. Those guarantees are quite simply worth nothing to the pet owner. For who would want to give up a puppy that they have grown to loveÉ Many more health guarantees will not cover genetic defects or if so only on a very limited basis - such as Liver Shunt or LP etc et c and only for one year. Many genetic defects do not show up in the first year at all. My personal belief is that the health guarantee should reflect the quality of the breeder. Their passion and belief in the breed - and a weighted,a fair balance of responsibility for their breeding and the acknowledgement of how future parental care can and very often does impact the health of their puppy as they age. I believe that knowledgeable breeders have a responsibility to disclose all of the more common ailments of Yorkies - to see this go to the library and see the Top 10 Health concerns of Yorkies. I believe for Yorkies breeders really can't warrantee against LP LS Cataracts PRA but they can screen and test their breeding dogs for this. Two clear dogs could still produce a pup with one or more of the above. But there is less chance and in particular if the breeder has a clear health history knowledge of their lines. I think that all puppy owners should purchase pet insurance or have the funds set aside available for emergencies and or health isssues that can develop over the first 2-3 yrs of life. For certain as your dog ages and becomes a senior they will likely require more vet care for age related health issues. The puppy should be warranted against infectious diseases and have a vet exam very close to the time you pick them up. You should take your puppy in for your vet to exam with in 48 hrs to do a full wellness screening - ideally including blood work. I hope that this helps you.

| Thanks for the info.! The problem is that I will not be able to take them to my vet within 48 hours, as I am picking up the pups in Seattle and driving to AZ, which will take several days.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Then negotiate a different time frame. Should be easy to do given your situation.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | If it is going to be days n days - then I suggest you get your vet to recommend a vet in Seattle to do the wellness exam. You can t expect a breeder to honor what ever guarantee they offer if you are travelling for many days to get home 48 hrs is a reasonable time frame - 5 days is not. I imported a dog from Russia - she arrived on the Friday - I had pre booked her wellness exam for that Monday. Giving her time in our home to recoup from her long flight. The breeder knew and approved. How-ever if there had been any serious signs of distress she would have been to ER that wkend. I posted vids of her for the breeder over the wkend and immediately communicated with her after our wellness exam. Then once again when I got bloodwork back. I am pretty sure the drive from Seattle to where you are is very long. Why not fly your pup in cabin with you? A return ticket to AZ can't be that much more expensive then driving and paying for motel bills n gas and food. And quite frankly much easier on both of you.

| Thanks for the ideas. I can't fly, as I am leaving from British Columbia, Canada and driving to Arizona, and picking up the pups near Seattle on the way to AZ. I have to drive as I need my vehicle there for 6 months. BUT, you have just given me a great idea! Maybe I could drive to AZ, and then after I get there, I could fly back to Seattle to pick up the pups. That might make everything a lot easier. Except for the fact I am terrified of flying. Will give that serious consideration. :-)

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Really do consider the fly option. Just pre book the flight in advance as some airlines have limits on # of dogs allowed in cabin per flight. You will need an airline approve carrier(s) for both pups. Sounds complicated but really not too much so. The other option is to pay for a courier to fly out with the pups. More expensive but might be worth the cost. Here is my main concern. On the road for what 4 or 5 days with new pups what happens if they get sick? How will they travel in the car? Where will you find a vet in case of sickness? A what 4 or even 5 hr flight is much preferable to 3-5 days on the road.

| Thanks, Gemy, I agree 100%. But I thought you could have two puppies in the same carrier onboard? One person cannot take two carriers on board, you would have to pay for 2 seats in order to do that.

I know for sure that Southwest accepts two pups of the same breed in one approved carrier. | |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I just flew home with two pups - two weeks ago. Had a health certificate but wasn't ever asked for it. These pups were 4 months old and were allowed by Delta to be in the same carrier - went first class as there was more room under the seats and thought it would be better to be one of the first ones on and off the plane with these little guys. The cost for Delta was $125 for the pet and they didn't charge me double because they were pups under 6 months old. Had the health certificate but was never asked for it. If you fly both ways the same day, you can not do express check in, you have to go to the counter and get a printed ticker.. When I checked back in to fly home, I asked for a special room for the pups/carrier to be checked. The TSA held the carrier while I walked thru the detector, then they took me to a small area with another TSA in the room. I took the pups out there, because one does the wiggles all the time, they scanned the carrier, brought it back, put pups back in and we were cleared to travel. - Hope this helps.
