YorkieTalk Newbie! | Please help unsure if my baby Gigi is pregnant Hello everyone im new to this so please bear with me. My baby Gigi is 2 1/2 yrs old. She was bred 3 weeks ago and i not sure if there is any change in her. She is clingy and barks at everyone especially on our walks. I've read and read on it and still have no clue because her stomach isn't as swollen as i seen in the pictures. I'm not sure that why I'm asking for some input. |

| After 4 weeks, you can get an accurate ultrasound, providing your vet is good at reading US....at day 58, you can get an xray because all the little skeletons will be calcified by then and you can see how many babies she is or is not carrying. At that time, you can also measure head/pelvic ring ratio to see if the babies are likely to pass without problem. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi and welcome to YT . I SO hope your girl makes it through the birth okay. It can be a life and death situation (whelping a litter), so I'd encourage you to get a birth mentor / breeding mentor *fast* as you can so you can learn everything you can quickly.

| Will all due respect, why would you breed your little one on purpose without knowing everything it entails? It's so risky to put your little girls life on the line, and for what? So many professional breeders out there bettering the breed and so many that are in rescue and at the spca ready to find a home! Breeding is super expensive and hard work.

YorkieTalk Newbie! | I used a professional breeder that is in my city. Don't be to quick judge mental im just asking for some insight and suggestion from experience mothers on here. Everyone has their own opinion when it comes to breeding. I love my baby girl. However if your dog is giving the ok to breed why not let her experience mother hood. God put everyone and creature on this earth to be fruitful, if it wasn't for our yorkie parents how would we have them? |

| First let me say, Welcome to YT ! I don't believe that MissPixi was trying to offend you, but what she said makes perfect sense. When you plan to breed, you should always do your research & have a mentor before the fact. My Sassy was the victim of a BYB who claimed to be a Proffesional breeder, turns out not only was she NoT a PRO but a shady BYB & my Sassy suffered as a result of that. So it's these kinds of things we as Lovers of our pups try to educate people about. As I am sure you Love your baby & would never deliberately bring unhealthy, unsound puppies into the world. There are lots of things to consider before breeding besides just a vet check, things like does your dog come from Healthy Champion lines ? Has both parents been tested for this & that ? are they genetically sound ? Do you know the answer to these questions ? If not then you should deff not breed your dog. There is much more then meets the eye when planning to breed. Here is a perfect example, Chiari Malformation, have you heard of this ? This is what my Sassy had & it is Both herriditary & congenital & is it no joking matter. People breed for the cute stubby body & baby doll face & this is never a good thing as it causes a change in the shape in the skull & is where Chiari comes in. So this is what we here at YT try to educate people about as we Love dogs & don't ever want to see or hear that they are suffering from bad breeding. YT is very often where & how people learn of things like Chiari, AAI , LS & LP. Simply a matter of fact not judjment so Please try not to take some posts the wrong way as we are Happy to have you here. I will be praying that if your princess in PG that all goes well for Her, the pups & you |

As far as "experiencing motherhood", our dogs aren't like us in terms of longing to have this experience or that experience - that's not how a dog's brain works. So, I wouldn't really base a choice of breeding upon your own projection upon your dog about it "wanting" motherhood - that's your desire for her, not her own desire. Do you know what I mean? Whelping can very easily be a life or death experience - so this is why you see some of the responses here that you're seeing. YT has been here since 2005 and we've seen tragedy after tragedy occur during whelping with both new and experienced breeders. To most of us, breeding is NO small thing -- not at all. Not when it could/can take the life of both Momma and pups.
