| My city boy meets country living Cody (3 y/o) had his first introduction to a swimming pool. The first photo was WTH is this thing. The second although it looks like his breaks were on, he was actually fighting with the water lol digging in it and growling and snapping at the water trying to bite it lol, he saw my friends legs and feet under the water and wanted to kill them, not knowing what it was he was seeing lol, silly thing that he is. The third photo he took his “giant step” into the pool, his eyes got as big as saucers lol, he swam to a float but instead of climbing onto it he attacked it, ripped off the corner piece lol (was make out of foam). We redirected him to the steps where he got out and I went in, I had his retractable leash on him, when he saw momma in the pool without hesitation he swam right to me with his saucer eyes lol. Did he enjoy it ? Lol, I will find out the next time we visit, I will see if he will enter pool without hesitation. I hesitate, that water is colddddd lol.

| Awe maybe he didn't like the cold water?? Hannah doesn't like my pool at all but I keep trying. Last weekend my Daughter in law introduced her two to the pool for the first time and her Yorkie/Chi mix swam like a pro and also dove in on her own several times. I thought it was so awesome to see that little one enjoying herself.

| all my past girls loved the water, I had a big kiddie pool, they would be in it all day, I raised them from puppies, so as lil babies they were use to lakes, pools & swimming. I adopted Cody almost 9 months ago at the age of 2 1/2 y/o he turned 3 in March, it's a bit harder introducing an older dog to new things like swimming pools or lakes. I got him a little kiddie pool just to see if he would go in water up to his knees, he did, so I was confident he wouldn't be scared in deeper water. He came from NYC, he's never been in any body of water, but he is fierce, bold and brave lol, the water was COLD lol, but I think the next time we visit if I am in the pool he will come with no hesitation, now he knows the pool and he cannot be 2 feet away from me. I just want him to enjoy the water and swimming. I always got so much pleasure watching my girls play in the water, I use to call them water buffalo's lol.

| I love to watch dogs swim too! I have my Grandson's Choc Lab with me and I swear she thinks the pool belongs to her. She does some really crazy belly flops into the deep end. She swims several times a day and if your not in the mood to dry her off then best not to let her outside. You can hear her jump in from my living room. She loves, loves, loves the water. She has lots of pool toys and will drop them by your feet, bark and insist that you throw them into the pool so she can retrieve them. I am hoping Hannah will love it someday. So funny to watch my Min Pin who will run from the back pasture jump on the sundeck, squat to get her body wet and than run to the back pasture again. My dogs love country living but with Hannah and my Chihuahua I have to be careful because they are so small. They seldom go outside and when they do I am hovering over them.

| lol sounds like your Min Pin is one smart lil girl, she knows just how to cool herself off, one smart pup, lol, ohhhh the life of a dog.... If you have an inground pool maybe try coxing Hannah in with her fav. toy or a treat. Above pools are harder on the pups, they have to be placed in the water, and if they don't like water all it will do is scare them more. I want my boy to be willing to go in the water on his own, do it because he likes it. This first encounter with the pool I was inciting him to attack the water and the image of my friends legs and feet lol, I knew he couldn't bite them unless he dove in and swam under water and for sure I knew he wouldn't do that, I was positive with him and clapping with every inch he took until he got so over excited and just went in, but the look on his face was priceless lol. I couldn't take the pic. because of all the clapping I was doing. I would love to take him to the ocean but that's a 3 hour trip one way lol. So we have to wait for the pool invites.

| When we found our last guy Lou I don't think he had swam before he was 4 when we found him but we had a pool…he was flying around the perimeter of the pool after a bunny and hydroplaned (on the wet pool decking) right into the deep end on a very cold day (cold for AZ ) he HATED it… I taught him how to get in and out of the pool the next spring and we put a several bricks on one of the steps so he could find his way out if he fell in again…he never did like the pool but I wish he had! Yorkies don't always like to be wet it reminds them of the B-A-T-H word. |

| lol cute story, an unpleasant introductory to water can scare them from ever liking water. My last girl feared the water. When she was 9 months old I took her to a lake, there were Canadian Geese on the shore, it was the first time she ever saw geese, she started to chase them, I dropped her leash to let her go, they flew off into the water about 10 feet away, Matese never saw water before (this was in the month of May, camping season just started for me & my babies) so she chased after them right into the water, when she hit that water she freaked out, went into panic mode,I had to go in after her, that scared her for life, she wouldn't even go into the kiddie pool if it had 3 inches of water. Matese was a big girl, as an adult she weighed 17 lbs, but she was always afraid of the water, so sad. The 3 before her all loved the water, I couldn't keep them out of their kiddie pool, I had to get a big one that would fit 3 at one time, they weighed from 10 to 13 lbs. The pool would hold 2 feet high water enough for the to paddle around in,so to me it was sad that Matese was so scared of water, That's why I want to be very careful with Cody at the age of 3 y/o and just being introduced to water and swimming. Thanks for sharing you story.

| So cute!! I love to see other swimming Yorkies! Jackson LOVES the water. I honestly don't even remember how it started much. I just have always encouraged him to try anything and everything and make things fun and positive for him. He started jumping in by jumping onto rafts first. He couldn't stand seeing all the kids and myself jumping in and him not being a part of it. Then he started doing this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMV2...nJy0e5dC5PD9qA He is a water FREAK... the *only* type of water he hates is a bath! lol
