| Ack! Can't get Zoey to pee in the house! This is kind of urgent. I bought a little pen and some pads for my 4lb Zoey. She's 5 and was pee pad trained as a pup, but has gone outside since I got her at the age of one. Anyway...we're having a blizzard right now. Just the situation I bought the little pen for. Well. She's refusing to go in the pen since I put her in it at 4:30 this morning. (It's 12:30pm right now.) She hasn't gone since 8pm last night. Sixteen and a half hours!!! I really hate to take her out in the storm. That's the whole point of buying this little setup...just for horrible weather like this. I've walked her around the house, played with her, given her food and water and nothing! What do you guys think? Will she actually hold it until she hurts herself some way OR go when she feels desperate? She just sits there looking bewildered.

| I feel your frustration with this New England weather, since I'm in it right now too, but please make every effort to take her out so she can pee! I shovel paths around the back yard for Rocco to do his thing and he's fine. I know he would never, ever pee in the house and would hold it to a fault. Give her some time outside to go, since she's held it so long it will take a few minutes.

| not sure of the type of place you live in, my Lola is 5.5 lbs and only does her outside and that is fine with me, she does not seem to mind the snow at all. I take her out my front door and she goes right down the steps and does her business. My husband will often shovel a path and clean off some of the grass, but LOL she often by passes the shoveled area and heads for the snow. If you try to make her regress to the house she might start having accidents. Most yorkies will not break if they get a little snowy, just look at Alaska Mike's photos of his Jilly and Eddie, they romp in the snow and have a blast.

| Wow...thanks for the quick response RM! Your post pushed me over the edge of guilt I was teetering on and I took her out. Lol...she had no lag time peeing and pooping. She's a happy little whizzer now. We're in Plymouth County. What's worrying me is tomorrow morning. They're saying 15 to 18 inches for us. The snow is getting wetter too. I've just got to get her pad trained for times like this. I managed to sop up quite a bit of pee and a piece of poop and put all that yummy stuff in her pen on the pad. Maybe it will encourage her in the morning. I hope you weather this mess all right. As long as we don't lose power, I'll be thrilled. The last storm we were out 2 days and this time it's going to be so much colder.

| Ha, DB...she doesn't mind it too much, altho she definitely doesn't love it. It's my husband I worry about. He's 85 and I don't want him out there hurrying with the shovel. He insists on doing it and won't let anybody else help. Manly men, know what I mean? He's living proof they never grow out of it...

Do you have a garage? I have a friend with a strictly outdoor trained dog who will use the pad when necessary in the garage. To the dog, it's not in the house. My second boy was strictly outdoor trained when we brought him home at 8 months. He was willing to pee on the pad, but he didn't want to poop indoors. I had to pen him and sit with him until he did it. Admittedly, it was a sad experience because he was so desperate to go outside. When he saw how happy I was and that I took care of cleaning it up right away, then he was fine with it.

| Thanks Max and V. Sadly, I have no garage and my silly husband has now been out twice to shovel for Zo. This is NOT going to happen tomorrow, if I have to sit on them both. My god...priorities, you know? MEN. Good thing for him I love him, or I'd shoot him on the spot, lol.

| Do you have the pads with the scent in them? Either way I would maybe get the "Go-Here" Spray. they sell it at most pet stores and it has the smell that makes them want to go, like when out on a walk. I would say for next time get that and load that pad up! |

| SUCCESS!!!! This morning we have drifts in front of the door. It's going to take a long time to even get the door actually open, lol. Anyway, I put her in the pen this morning, she sniffed her own pee that I soaked it with yesterday, and TA DA! Instant squat and pee. Needless to say, she got megatons of love and praise. Zo is now in her rightful place...on my lap.

| These dogs are such creatures of habit. Getting her to potty on a pad is going to take a lot of training. Maybe a nice sweater and a quick trip outside is best for now. It appears she is well trained to go outside so it may not be a good thing to try to change her habits at this point. It may be too confusing for her. Gracie was a pup when I got her. I pad trained her first and then later started taking her outside. We kept the pads around though for when we were going to be away from home for more than a couple hours and for bad weather. You didn't have much choice in the matter. I hope your weather gets better soon! We are in the midst of it too. |
