YorkieTalk Newbie! | help im in BIG trouble... Hi I'm new please please don't judge me. I have a yorkie. She's only 7 months old. The love of my life. She went into heat. I also have a 3. Yr. Old toy male poodle. I kept him downstairs. Well. You got it. The air conditioner blew the door open I found them tied. Omg that was fast. Anyway after a stressful day I kept my poodle outside on a feature and my girl inside in her crate. Well; you guessed it she wiggled out and my hubby came home the door opened and bamm tied again. So. Now that I'm the worst mom ever....what do I do. I've been told a c section is in my future. Oh please have some kind words to help me. |

| Hi there, I'm so sorry you're gong through this stressful situation. How large is your yorkie? At 7 months old most people will tell you to have an abortive spay, because she is still growing herself. That is the safest for her. I personally probably wouldn't do it myself unless the vet said it was a risky pregnancy because I don't like killing little puppies even if they aren't born yet. According to the dog breed information center about 25% of dog births require a C-section (sounds a bit high to me) and will end up costing big bucks. If you don't have the extra cash to care for such an instance that would again be another reason to have her spayed. There's a lot to think about, but I think as long as your yorkie isn't sickly or tiny she will be just fine whether you decide to go through with the pregnancy or not. EDIT: provided that if you do go through with the pregnancy, you do tons of research and watching disgusting youtube videos to prepare yourself so you can recognize the signs of labor gone wrong and know what to do to help if she needs it. ♥Love My 3 Furrbutts♥ Donating Member | Accidents do happen. Your girl is too young and probably too small to go through a pregnancy. Personally if it were me I would have an emergency spay done asap. You could be risking your girls life to go through with this pregnancy. A C-section (which is probably what you are in for, as she is so very young) could run you upwards of about $3000.00! Not to mention the costs of caring for a litter, and the responsibility for the lives of the pups. There are many dangers here....the very life of your pup is at risk, you could lose her as well as the puppies....please speak to your vet and have her spayed.

| You didn't mention the sizes of the poodle or his grandparents or greatgrands. I'm not a breeder but I've heard them say that besides the father, it's important to know the size of the father's lineage - important even if he is small, since if one of his parents or recent ancestors was large, he could produce large puppies - too large for your female. I don't know how far back the size in either parent's lineage can affect the size of the puppies. She might not be able to carry the puppies and rupture her uterus or something. Plus, if you know nothing about how to care for or whelp a female and have all of the supplies and medications you will need for whelping and puppy raising, you could lose your female, puppies or both. I would tend to not put her through all of that with such a young, immature female. I would check with my vet but likely the least-risky solution will be an abort-spay ASAP rather than risking a pregnancy and whelping or c-section. Plus, it is pretty tough to watch your baby girl suffering and so uncomfortable with labor and delivery! Remember, they don't get pain medicine or sub-durals.

| You've been given some really good advice above --- she needs to be spayed. She is still a baby herself and her body isn't ready for this, and emotionally she won't be mature enough, either. It would be on the order of a 10-12 year old human going through childbirth and having to take care of babies.

| Welcome to YT. I am sorry this happened to you also but I honestly would schedule an emergency spay. It is to much of a risk for her young body to have to go through a whelp. There would be a huge chance of losing her and the pups. It sounds like you really love her and want what is best for her. Getting her spayed right away would not cause her anymore stress I wouldn't think than if she were not pregnant. Good luck.

| Emergency spay is also what I suggest. When I got my Foxy she was pregnant, and vet suspected that the puppies were too large for her to have. So I decided to have an emergency spay for her, I felt bad at first, but this girl is the love of my life and it was def. the right decision. Her puppymill days are over!

| For the health of your female, have her spayed immediately. You can have that done now and her health will not be at risk from a pregnancy in an essentially immature female. You have no idea what dogs are behind the male or the female, ie., in their pedigrees, and THAT is where the monsters can be lurking. While you may be looking at a small male and a small female, you could have large dogs behind them, and that could really present a problem for your female, giving birth. Dont be deterred by what the vet bill may be to have your female spayed....if she continues with the pregnancy and needs a c-section, etc., you can triple or quadruple what the cost of a spay is. Then next, have your male neutered, to prevent anymore accindental breedings. Last edited by Yorkiemom1; 05-17-2013 at 05:56 PM. |

| Accidents happen its how you handle them that really matters. Your girl is still a baby you need to get her to the vet and do an emergency spay as soon as you can.

| In her blog it says the poodle is bigger so if he's 3 pounds she is way to tiny to have pups!
