| Who would take care of your dog... ... if you died? I know, morbid. But the question popped up on another forum and made me curious. So many dogs are put into shelters when owners die, and it's sooo sad to me when a family member won't take them. I know my dad would keep him. He would be my first choice. Jackson loves it over at his house, he gets to run around the fenced in yard, swim in the pool, be around his two dogs and my little brother, etc. I'm pretty sure my dad would let him get fat though and not get him enough exercise, but I know he'd be happy and well taken care of (i.e. taken to the vet when needed, etc). I would never choose to let him stay where we live now (with my mom and stepdad). They are NOT dog people, and would probably forget that he even existed. They do love him and all, but just not the greatest dog owners, and they'll admit it. If for some unknown reason my dad did not work, which I don't see why it wouldn't, I do have a few other family members who I know would take good care of him (in order: my aunt, my grandma, my uncle). But honestly? I think he would be so lost without me. My dad says whenever I am gone for a few days, if I go away, he's just not the same and he's constantly looking for me. I'm pretty sure he'd be a wreck. We're very attached.

| Well, I've thought about this question quite often since I divorced in January. My ex said he loves the girls, and I believe him, but his new home doesn't have an outside space for the girls. He, therefore, can't take them. My boys are in the Army and are too busy. The friend that I stay with, will take them and promises to love them forever. I also have the backup of one of my sisters (I have five); she has a yorkie and loves them also. I'm not sure I've asked her yet though! |

| I don't think it's morbid at all---it's practical, and necessary to think about. That said, I haven't really thought about it I would hope that my sister would take my girls, but she lives up in Maryland and is also very busy with her own life/family/work. My daughter would take care of them, but if she were still not established (she's 16 and a junior right now) I would hate to burden her, though she loves her "sisters" very much. I will have to give this some serious thought, thanks for bringing it up

| I too have thought about this long and hard Brit - and actually touched on it when I started the thread about my daughter adopting her Labradoodle that was about to be put to sleep - until she rescued it.... Of course no-one could be the same as their 'real mum' - and my parents (who adore Harry) may/may not be around when I go as they're in their 80's. Andy may/may not be around - he has a heart condition. My son lives in Vienna - my sister works long hours - the obvious choice would be my daughter who obviously is a real animal lover, and Harry and Luka get on brilliantly. I have had the long, in-depth conversation with her and it has all been agreed. It has also been written into my Will. I have also put a large-ish sum aside (again, to be left from my Estate and is written into my Will) to cover any eventuality plus plenty to keep him in 'the manner to which he is accustomed'!! I know it wouldn't be the same for him - all we can do is think ahead and try....sad topic, but necessary. Sally + Harry x |

| I am so fortunate to have my in-laws and that's where Coco and Georgie would go. They would actually hand feed Georgie when he was having issues and both sleep in bed with them when we go out of town. If they were gone too it would be my niece she has a Yorkie and loves Oliver like I love Georgie. Although they take such good care of Georgie he like Jackson is so sad when we are gone.

| I don't really think it's morbid at all - just good planning. My adult son would take Brutus and if some reason he couldn't- my sister would. I have already committed to taking in my sisters Yorkie if anything happened to her.

| I agree it's not morbid at all but something that is important to have decided in case something were to happen. Either my Mom or sister would take my two boys or if for some reason they were unable to then my dog groomer who has known them all of their lives would LOVE to have them. |

| Honestly, I have no idea who would take Sophie Kate or a better question would be who I would trust with Sophie Kate. I think if I knew I was going to be leaving Earth before Sophie Kate I would ask YHR to take her and place her in a good home. (I was very tempted to type I would sell her on Craigslist, not sure why - sometimes I just want to be a butthead I guess).

| Dogs are in the Will. Hubby if still living and able to care for them. My family members would have to separate the dogs. I have a will. Where and who, is stipulated in the will, along with money to provide for their care. (We have 5 dogs and noone could take all 5, because everyone already has a dog(s).
