| anyone have experience with Cherry Eye? I noticed last night that Douglas's eye was red and watery. He had been playing in the sand with my son early in that evening, so i thought maybe he had some sand in it. When I got home today from work I noticed it was redder and no better so I took him to the vet this evening, they did the green staining and found no scratching and gave me a handout on cherry eye. They gave me some eye drops to give him every 8 hours for 7 days and he also has to go back on Wednesday and possibly on Sunday to recheck it. She was pretty worried about him, he also had green discharge coming out of the eye which she said is not good. Anyone have any advice on this? I am really hoping it goes away with no problems! The picture is not great and does not really show it well because he was not liking the bright lights. Thanks!

| My lasha had cherry eye... It was the second eyelid that would stick out, like a herrina. After a couple of years I had the vet fix iit ( I think it was the same time as a dental cleaning) A few months ago he got a ulcer.. Sounds the same as you are describing. Just do what the vet says and you will be fine. The drops are important and the checks up ... Good luck

| Maximo had his third eyelid pop out when he had an eye ulcer and I was scared that it was cherry eye. The vet reassured me that sometimes the eyelid will come out to protect the eye. It isn't necessarily permanent. It may go back. If you can, I would take your pup to an ophthalmologist. Green discharge indicates infection, and combined with the eyelid popping out and no detectable ulcer/scratch, sounds like an unusual case. There could be something lodged in his eye that a regular vet cannot detect. Maximo had ectopic cilia -- hair growing on the underside of his eyelid. It was very difficult to detect. Keep your pup in a e-collar to prevent rubbing and scratching. Sending prayers for your little guy.

| Yes, you should limit his activity to prevent further harm to his eye. Put him in an e-collar 24 hours a day to prevent him from pawing at his eye.

| I had a cocker spaniel that had it. It very common in that breed. Sometimes you can massage it back into place but more common than not it has to be surgically corrected. Surgical options are removal of the second lid, which causes dry eye or the tack down which leaves the eyes normal however the dog can be at risk of developing it again if not properly done. I would make a trip to the vet and see what he suggests.
