| Frusterated. Just a little aggrivated today. This thread is partly connected to another one or two I started about Frontline plus reviews and the older thread of Flea pills troubles of getting my pooches to take it. I gave my dogs Frontline Plus Friday that I got from the vet. I thought the stuff was supposed to work within 12 hours of application. 24 hours later I still saw live fleas. Three days later they are still scratching. I just dont think the stuff worked or is working. My frusteration comes that a month ago I went through two sets of flea pills for two dogs and was out 46 bucks and they never got the pill down them I dont think to work. We had a terrible time trying to get them to take the pill last time. Tried everything. But with two sets per dog and still didnt get medicated.... this time I went with the topical vet recomended the Frontline plus. Well, they had a deal on where if you buy three you get a fourt free. so, I got the deal and got the extra. Only to see that I dont think its working either...... Just frusterated. I thought I read on here somewhere that its only guaranteed to work if you buy it from the vet. I called the vets office today to ask them if its supposed to work by now and to see what else I could do. First of all they said they couldnt guarantee anything that the supplier doesnt or something like that. They said each dog is different and different stuff works differently..... Ok, I can see that but give us people a break that buys all these meds for no affect? I can understand somewhat that they cant help if it doesnt wor with a particular dog and they have to make thier money too... and, I can understand if its not their fault that we couldnt get our dog to take the pills and had to try two sets. But youd think through all that that maybe they could give you some kinda discount? or something.... Im just aggrivated times are tight on everybody and I need and want to try my babies with what they need. But this is chunks of trial n error money.... But what even aggrivated me also, was that this lady was workin with a customer at the time she was on the phone w me. She would be talking to me then stop while I was talking to her and talk to the customer she was helping at the desk. I was like um, hello? Thats so rude... Put me on hold or something but dont answer a call and try to talk to me and help somebody at the counter at the same time and stop while Im talking and me asking you questions... Id RATHER be put on hold for ten minutes or so and get your undivided attention when Im asking questions, we do pay out the wazoo sometimes for vet services......... Even last Thurs when we were in to see the vet, we were talking to him asking him questions, some he answered and all but then he started walking out the room while we were talking. Not only that, took the dogs to the groomers Friday... Now she does it out of her home... Its a good drive from my home and if I dont have anything to do while they are being groomed I sometimes will just set and watch and wait on them. Well, I was there and she was grooming them and had two lil teenage girls there at her house getting ready for a padgent or somehting. She kept leaving my dogs off and on to deal with them and help with thier hair when they came into her grooming room. I was liked....? Im the one paying you here and always give a tip. I just dont get people these days. Then I get home and she didnt do the best job on my dogs. One of them she made a big reddish bad skinned place on my dogs elbow area where she cut down to close to the skin. Cant complain though. She's a sweet girl quit young but its great that she has her own little business at that age, plus she's the only groomer we have in this area. Otherwise we'd have to go an hour plus away to have them groomed. But Im just soooo aggrivated. Sartin to feel the financial pressure everybody else is these days and just aggrivated to keep being out money for meds that dont work and for nothing. And Im just aggrivated with people in general....... |

| I feel your frustration. Fleas have just been bad this year. My indoor pooch that never (or hardly ever) goes outside has had fleas a few times this summer. After talking to a few friends, and the vet, I've just come to accept they're everywhere this year. They hitch a ride on the humans, come inside the house, and start biting our pets. Most of the ones I have found are already half dead. If I'm able to catch them, I know the flea stuff is working. They're usually to quick to catch.

| Well, I was able to "Catch" a few when I was searching them over to see if I could find any after I gave the meds. Normally they are about too hard to cartch.. maybe the meds is working some...... it just bugs me that I know they are still scratching and still have some.... They cant have many..... I just dont see em scurrying.... but they r fast so who knows.... I might medicate again w the second dose of front line I have in a few days...... |

yeah but they said it was ok at the vet. I certainly dont want to do anything to harm them, they r my life. But I dont want them to have fleas . Im just so paranoid of getting a flea problem in hte house . Ive already washed up their bedding and vacumed over the couch and washed our bed linens where he sleeps. Just to be on the safer side. But All I can think is even if they have just a few...... they say they lay 50 eggs a day... Im just paranoid and dont want a big flea problem.... | |

| Ok well these are a few home remedies that worked miracles for us.... We don't have fleas in our yard (we never do) because we treat our yard (front, and back) with lime... now this is very harmful to your animals so if you are going to do this keep them from going outside for about 3-4 hours. And bathe them in ajax dish detergent make sure that if you do this you get every last part of the body, fleas usually run to the head, so make sure you get up there, and then just use the regular shampoo and conditioner... Well i hope this helps.

| I just dealt with some fleas, and I'm not sure how big your home is (ie how big this undertaking is), but this is what we did for our entire apartment and *knocking hard on wood* it seems to have worked: Ok so found flea last Monday, gave Revolution that night (topical). Waited 2 days, I didn't have flea bath on me, but I bathed him in regular bath to wash dead fleas off. On last sunday I planned the whole day as follows: Got up, threw all laundry that touched my floor or my dog in the laundry room in total I did 13 loads of wash. I then proceeded to take my entire apartment apart, washing top to bottom floors walls, base boards with a Mr.Clean, Bleach and a bit of flea shampoo. After I washed everything, Then I bought some of that spray stuff, and I sprayed the baseboard first and worked my way into the center of the room, so that fleas don't hide in the baseboards. Then I sprayed furniture. I locked the dog in the bathroom so that he wasn't near the spray or the washing product. I did each room and then did a double spray and wash in the dog room, I left it to dry for an hour, then I flea bathed the dog, and put him in the clean room, and finished cleaning the rest of the house, did all the laundry. By the end of the day the entire place was crystal clean, and the flea bath kills any live ones on them. I plan on repeating the spray and flea bath in another week.

| Oh did I mention I'm absolutely paranoid and HATE bugs... hence the excessive cleaning... But I know your frustration. Harley has been rather ill for almost 2 months. After we discovered the fleas, the vet admitted that many of his symptoms could have actually been caused by the fleas, especially if they carried any sort of bacteria. Originally we thought the itching was from food allergies, but now we're not sure. You'll get rid of them, but cleaning your house completely is a great way to remove them. If you do it all in one day, they wont have a place to hide and repopulate.

| Something else to remember is the lifecycle of fleas and the fact that they hide everywhere! In between the cracks in the floors (between wooden floor boards), in the carpets, in the couches, in the chairs, on our pets, everywhere and where ever they go, they lay eggs. So you may be killing the ones on your dogs but the eggs are going to be hatching. Its a vicious cycle. Our Max had them really bad back in either 2004 or 2005 somewhere in there and it took me a while to get rid of them. It was another summer like this past one - lots of rain and heat - apparently, they thrive in this weather. I was vacuuming every day, doing laundry every day and got some spray to spray around the house (where it would not bother the cats or dog - like under the couch and under the cushions on the couch, etc.) plus bathing Max, it took a couple weeks to get rid of them completely, but we finally beat them. Good luck, they are a hard pest to get rid of. Thankfully, Jack has not had any this year.

| Well, I dont have carpet at least so thats one big plus in our favor though I read they can get in the crevises of wood flooring to. But I already washed thier beds, blankets, our sheets where the yorkie sleeps w us. I washed the throws and things on the couch that the dog comes in contact with. I dont have a real good working vacum where I dont have carpet but I used a dust buster and vacumed over the couch. I think by washing the beds from time to time surely has to keep down on the eggs from hatching. I just hate the thoughts of even one flea on my dog. Because one flea can lay 50 eggs a day. So Im afraid those will hatch. Its just alarming to see and think how fast they "can" be a problem. I dont think we've ever had a big issue. We dont really get bites. I've only had one flea bite since we've had them almost two years now. But I still just get worried that we "could" have em and just dont see em or know. But Im just soo annoyed that Ive spent sooo much on Meds when they're not working or getting the benefit of. My yorkie just had a bath Friday so I hate to re bathe him. He has a lot of dandruff flakes in places so I dont want to dry him out. But I may start just doing every bath w fea shampoo or dawn just as extra measures. Why not right? But my yorkie tonight I noticed he has a dime sized raw reddish place on him. I dont know if its from the Frontline or a bite irritation or what. My dogs dont get to go out much. Hardly ever in our yard. ( I know they should) but I think they get most of what they get from the groomers where theres other dogs and all that dog hair. That usually seems to be when I notice it is when they go there. Just over whelmed about being out so much money for no effects of the medicine and to know I need to treat them every month techincally to keep handle on this stuff. Ive been searching my yorkie tonight while he slept in my lap and I cant see anything. But I did get two off of him and I saw one last night but couldnt catch it. lol So I feel like he still has at least one flea... he's still scratching. I have a Lhasa apso too and she's more difficult to check she has very very thick hair and she's harder to handle and hold down but I got one off her too the other night after she'd been treated and she's still scratching..... |

| The flea med you used only works as the fleas bite your animal. So the others that are hatching in the home just jump on. One flea can lay thousands of eggs. They like to put the eggs in carpeting and along the edges of the room. They also lay eggs under the cushions of your furniture and in your furniture. If you don't get rid of them your animal will continue to get new fleas and the flea medication will not work as long as it was originally intended. A dog that is being bitten on a regular basis may need to be retreated with flea medication up to every 8 days. It is better to vacuum all those areas and put down a flea powder or other type of flea killer. Make sure you empty the vacuum and take the contents outside right away. Siphotrol Plus is the only flea bomb I have found that really works. Some vets sell it or you can find it online. The trouble with bombs is you have to get every living thing out of the home for a period of time. If your dog has an area in the yard that it is in frequently that area may need to be treated with an outdoor flea spray. Whenever I bring Gracie back inside I go over her quickly with a flea comb to make sure we get anything that may have jumped on her while we were out. It has been a bad year for fleas. Staying ahead of the problem it the best defense. It seems that a good groomer is hard to come by these days. I like to use a groomer that grooms show dogs. They have a lot of knowledge about the breeds and the best way to deal with their coats. Like everything else the education of groomers seems to have diminished in quality. The ones in the chain stores seem to only know how to shave a coat down and not how to do a real breed cut. |
