Senior Yorkie Talker | Biewer Dogs - Don't know how all of you feel. fff Dont know how all of you feel about it but I hate it when someone refers to a Biewer Dog as a Biewer Yorkie. They are not a Yorkie, they are a very expensive mixed breed dog. For all of us breeders out here who are spending a fortune trying to breed the perfect AKC standard yorkies, it just sort of irritates me. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I happen to love them too - and we have several members who breed them here - I think they are totally different from the STD yorkie and it doesn't bother me at all ...I think they're beautiful... These members also breed yorkies and are well respected breeders. |

| Biewers I have one Biewer, I have standard colors... I totally admire the German breeders who have developed this line of YORKIES. They are lovely additions to the Yorkie breed. Right now, I perfer to keep a standard and show her..who knows what I will do later..LOL TYCA isn't taking a vote yet to accept them. If and when the day comes we can really have a debate!! LOL |

| I'll leave the debate up to the breeders and those who know - heck, I can't even pronounce it right, but... At Sylvan's the other week was the first time I ever met a Biewer and a Parti. They were wonderful little boogers!!! But then she had a whole PACK of wonderful little boogers - regular Yorkies, labs, Great Dane, and 3 teenagers!

| Ricki I think youve been gravely misinformed READ ON! The Biewer Yorkie originated in Germany in 1984 and was a piebald genetic recessive gene occurrence offspring produced by Gertrude and Werner Biewer's Yorkshire Terriers. The sire and dam of the first recognized Biewer Yorkie were "Darling of Friedheck" and "Frufru of Friefieck". The Biewer's saw the little dog with it's white markings as extraordinarily attractive and began the selective breeding process to produce more. The Briewer's named these little dogs with their white markings "Biewer Yorkshire a la Pom Pon". Thus the beginning of the Biewer Yorkies as we know them today. The first German Biewer Yorkshire club was established in May 24, 2003. The Biewer Yorkie was recognized as a breed unto itself long before this date though when the general public recognized it unofficially as a breed. The Biewer Yorkshire is bred, registered and shown in other countries and is on the top of the popularity list for the United States. Few registries in the United States as of this date have acknowledge the Biewer Yorkshire as a breed. The American Canine Registry is one of the few and the first United States known registry that does recognize the Biewer as a breed and is helping to promote the breed in the United States and throughout the world by the breed name of "Biewer Yorkie". The American Canine Registry formed the Biewer Yorkie Association on May 15, 2003 preparing to set in place breed standards and other club necessities and applied for recognition in 2004. The Biewer Yorkie was originally a piebald genetic recessive gene occurrence from 2 Yorkshire Terriers but unscrupulous breeders have tried to match the look of the Biewer Yorkshire by crossing the Yorkshire Terrier and the Shih-Tzu. The crossing will produce the parti/piebald/white markings from the Shih-Tzu influence after the second generation but these crossbred dogs would take generations before they would produce the hair coat and the facial features seen in the Biewer Yorkshire. If the dog being presented to you as a Biewer Yorkshire has very wavy and/or course hair, or the facial features or body style of the Shih-Tzu then it's highly unlikely that it is a true purebred Biewer Yorkie. The Biewer Yorkie Association is the first and only known United States Biewer Yorkie Club that formed in order to promote, educate, document, register and propagate the Piebald patterned Yorkie in the United States by starting a foundation registry by which verifiable, pedigreed & purebred Yorkshire Terriers, Biewer Yorkies and Tri-Color Yorkies may be bred together to produce the Piebald Patterned Yorkies through F1-F2 crosses and their Linage documented for the purpose of receiving full recognition through ACR.

| I am very interested to see how this goes! I am an aspiring breeder and therefore don't know nearly as much as some of these other amazingly knowledgable members. I do know that Biewers are Yorkies, not mutts with high price tags. Biewers simply have a different gene that accounts for the white coloring. I'm sorry that you are irritated by those who breed Biewers. I have one myself and hope to acquire many more to breed one day. The thing that I don't understand is that you are irritated because you are trying to breed Yorkies by AKC standards and Biewers are not even AKC recognized. Biewers too have set standards and those who breed them follow them just as you follow those set by AKC for your little ones.

Ricki, I agree with you I wish they took out the word Yorkshire Terrier from the name. It can be misleading. I have 6 True Biewers (not mixes) as well as 6 Yorkies I consider them separate breeds even thought the Biewer origniated from the Traditional colored Yorkies. Biewers have a specific pattern that their markings must follow. If you have the TRUE Biewer you will these markings everytime. If you have mixes, the pups can be one extreme or the other all white little color or all black little white and tan/gold whatever.. I have researched the history of this breed extensively and learned very much from a wonderful mentor/friend of mine in Germany. I am proudly a member of the IBC AKA International Biewer Club in Germany. My reason to start a program of Biewers is the same as why you breed Yorkies, because I was fortunate to find WONDERFUL examples of the breed and have been trusted to breed them and help with producing the True Biewer. I have plans to show my Yorkies. I have produced my first Show Prospect and I have a wonderful mentor/friend who is ever so helpful in helping me achieve my goal to get my ShoPo in the ring My concern is that it will be held against me because I breed Biewers. I hope that's not the case. I want to win or lose based on what I have in the ring not and nothing else. I've visted your website Ricki, I love your Yorkies. When I get home I'll post a pic of a excellent example of a true Biewer. Yorkie hugs, Irene Last edited by YorkieRini; 11-18-2005 at 07:26 AM. | |

| ???? Oh boy. I might be jumping into this totally wrong, but.....is there a difference between a Biewer Yorkie (sorry if I offend anyone) and a "Party" Yorkie? From the pictures I see on here, they sure look alike when they're adults. Don't hate me, I'm just wondering. Suz
