| New to the forum because I just found a stray Yorkie So here's the story.. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.. I was getting ready to head out when a small, male, neutered Yorkie up and decides to walk into my life from the street.. Immediately, he was very affectionate and followed me around wherever I went.. He had no collar or any form of discernible identification but he was clearly a house dog.. He seemed well groomed, smelled fine, did not exhibited stressful, aggressive or timid mannerisms.. I brought him into my garage and observed his behaviors for about 30 minutes, all while offering him a bowl of water.. Unfortunately, I have no dog food with me (I don't own any dogs at the moment) but I offered him some turkey breast meat, which he ate up hungrily.. He didn't seem like he had any fleas or outwardly showing diseases (no excessive scratching, etc..), so I brought him inside for warmth and safety.. This is the first stray I've ever picked up off of the street.. I plan on bringing him to the Vet tomorrow after I get off of work to see if he's microchipped and healthy.. What should I ask for? What questions should I ask? If he doesn't have a chip and there are no signs posted or no one is actively looking for him, what should I do? I couldn't just let him be alone in the street where he could easily be killed.. He's cozied up on my carpet next to my bed and is seemingly making himself at home now.. Any advice? Suggestions? Anyone wanna tell me, straight up, what to do in this case? Thank you.. Any and all help is appreciated Last edited by jeffmo; 04-12-2011 at 10:50 PM. |

| Hi and Welcome to YT. It's great of you to take in this little dog. Do you plan to keep him if there is no microchip or no lost dog posted? I have a feeling he got out of someone's home if you say he's clean and friendly. You might want to post some notices saying you found a dog but I wouldn't give too much information because you never know what kind of nut would claim him. The vet will probably take blood tests and maybe xrays. I don't know. When we found Oliver the vet just checked out his eyes, nose throat and took him temperature but some vets are much more thorough. You have to find out if he had his vaccinations. Maybe find out how old he is. Well good luck and I hope you are planning to give this fur baby a home if he's not claimed. |

| Thank you for taking in this little guy as you look for his owner. After you check to if he is chipped I would call the shelter and your police office to see if anyone lost him. Also look at your paper and craigslist.I'm sure his family is looking for him. Just be careful that someone doesn't just say he is theirs as alot of people would like a yorkie or to sell him.

| Hello and Welcome to YorkieTalk! Thank you for taking care of this little one, while you look for his owners. That is so very kind of you. Looks like you are getting good advice on questions to people looking for their lost dog. When we found Vivi, we did not say what breed she was on Craigslist or the newspaper, just that she was a little tan dog. Then, we asked people calling what breed of dog they lost. It helped screen people pretty quickly. We also called the local police and the dog pound, etc., and put up signs in the neighborhood where we found her. Also, took her to the vet, etc. Good luck and thanks again for being his angel. Please keep us updated.

| Hello and Welcome to YorkieTalk. Love the pictures it appears you found a little gem and my bet it is someones pet. I am glad you are taking him to a vet to have him checked over, make sure they scan him for a micro chip. Thank you for taking this little guy in, I bet he thinks he got lucky when he wandered into your life. Do you plan on keeping him until you find his owner (and if you find his owner)? You may have mentioned it and I just didn't see it. YorkieTalk has a lot of very good members with a lot of knowledge on Yorkie's, feel free to ask any questions - I am sure you will get an answer. Good luck and keep us posted.
