| I am soooo fruestrated!!!! I consider myself a rather tolerant person. But enough is enough. I blame myself really. I know that when you purchase a dog through forums like these you are taking a risk. I do not expect a show quality dog. But I do expect healthy dogs! Some of you might remember my heartbreak when I purchased adorable little Diva (who I renamed Cricket) from a member of this site. She was SO adorable and sweet. I loved her to pieces from the moment I got her. But from the start she had seizures on a regular basis. She also had earmites so badly that it had caused a yeast infection and an intestinal infection. She died within a few months of my purchasing her. I was heart broken. Then I bought Cricket (coincidence) from a local ad in a paper. She is adorable and I quickly loved her too. She has anxiety issues and is tiny, but no major health issues thank goodness! But when I took a job with the government, I moved to DC. Cricket could no longer go to daily daycare (which she loved!) so I thought she should have a companion so she wasn't alone all day. Soooo, next came Bailey. Again from a YT member. He was older, not neutered or housetrained. But I am pretty good with Crate training and a trip to the vet is not a problem. He was close in size to Cricket, which was important to me so she would not feel intimidated and they could play. From the moment Bailey came home we have had issues. I am hoping some of these issues will calm down once he gets more settled. However... and here is the clincher. I noticed right away something was wrong with his hind legs. He looked bowlegged or something. And he seemed to circle gingerly when he would lay down. A friend said, "Hmmm looks like LP to me." So I called the owner... and she said. "Well they told me awhile back that his knees could pop in and out and to be careful. But it isn't a big deal." <Sigh> Next time... I will pay the top dollar my dogs deserve to get a QUALITY dog. I spoil my babies like you couldn't believe. And I will love Bailey. But I paid a lot of money for him. And now... I get to take him to the vet and find out what this is going to set me back. I understand people are busy. But I can LOOK at him and see his legs arn't right. How can this come as a surprise??? Thanks for letting me vent. But again. This is MY fault. From now on I will only buy from a show breeder who has a reputation to protect, or from someone local. -- Lesson Learned --

Donating YT 30K Club Member | So sorry you have had these problems. I have gotten yorkies over the years from BYB's an show breeders. My one now from a BYB has had a major health issues, I had one from a show breeder die at 7 months from congenital kidney disease, breeder had no idea and wouldn't have. Now one of mine from the show breeder just had LP surgery to the tune of 2500.00. I paid top dollar for her too. I think even if you do your homework sometimes you get a sick one. just like humans, things crop up. I know your situations are different, the breeder must have known in both cases that these problems existed. I hope Bailey can avoid surgery or that the breeder can help you with the cost of surgery if needed. I know how you feel. Hugs

| It sounds like you have learned the hard way that just because they are on here doesnt make them a good breeder. Im sorry

| I'm so sorry things have not worked out for you....I know how that can be.....I hope Bailey's problem is fixed and you no longer have any major issues....... Don't purchase from a show breeder thinking all will be well, that couldn't be further from the truth.....There are just as many there too that have questionable breeding practices (been there done that) ....It boils down to research and *personally* visiting the home.......Good luck.....

| I'm sorry you've had bad experience. If Bailey does turn out to have LP, that doesn't necessarily mean surgery. Lots of YT babies do great with glucosamine supplements. Talk to your vet and weigh the options.

| I paid a lot of money for both of mine. I won't go into that here, if you want to know you can PM me. They both have LP, which is probably what Bailey has. I have read that when they are bow legged that is a good sign of LP. One of mine has liver issues. There are other issues, but I could go on for a while. I guess what I'm trying to say is, just because you pay a lot of money for a Yorkie, does not mean they won't have issues. You have to have a good breeder. Mine are the loves of my life and I would not trade them for anything.

| I am so sorry to hear about Bailey. It really is heartbreaking to have a little one that is having and kind of health issues. I truly believe that in a breed with as many health issues as the YT has, it is vital to support the breeders who TRY their darndest to breed healthy puppies and who support the breed club and registries that are also trying to promote breeding healthy dogs. As puppy buyers, we need to ask what health tests they do on their dogs, if they CERF and OFA and if you can see copies of all those things. Don't just take their word. Also, you should have a contract in which it is specified what will happen if a genetic disorder is present and you incur vet expenses. IMO, the purchase price of the puppy should be refunded up to the cost of the surgery, and not more than, but that's my opinion. A breeder should be thrilled to do so and to have placed a puppy in a home that is good enough to take care of the dog. Unfortunately, not even the best breeder in the world can be 100% sure something won't crop up.

| Unfortunately I think it could just be a fluke. You never really know what you are going to get and unfortunately lots of yorkies have problems. I remember when I was looking for a dog I knew I wasn't going to buy one if they were from certain states (because when I would go to pet stores they always say where the dogs are from and this was before I knew about "puppy mills" but for some reason I knew I didn't want a dog from any of the states I remembered on the signs). So I got a dog that was not from any of those states and yet she still ended up having a liver shunt (which I had never heard of before either). I understand your frustration but I don't know if you ever know what is going to be wrong with a dog. You can try your best to do all your research and pray nothing is going to be wrong with your dog but sometimes even that doesn't help. Sorry you are going through all this.

| my pups were expensive...I have 3. my oldest came to me at age 5 as a retired champion, the breeder is a lovely, loving fantastic lady that is dedicated to bettering the breed. my middle one also has ribbons and did well in show, my littlest one I have brought home as a pet and I haven't completely decided not to show her, but its not likely as I feel already as if I run out of hours in each day. that being said, my oldest has been diagnosed with lymphangiectasia (a protein losing entropathy). you could say I did everything right in terms of making an informed choice regarding where to get my pups from, but I think its just like us...genetics play a role, but as the end of the day, we all could face health issues that have nothing to do with our genetics and thats what has happened to my girl pup. i guess all i am sharing is that in my expereince, it hasn't really been, "you get what you pay for."

| I looked back through the posts of who you purchased him from. Seems these people knew he had this problem and did not disclose it. I think you should try to get a refund of at least some of your money as if his knees are popping in and out sounds pretty bad and will very likely require surgical intervention at some point

I did call the previous owner and she says he was perfectly fine before. Which leaves me a little baffled. Because quite honestly, while he is very cute, I could tell something was wrong with his legs as soon as I took the little guy out of his carrier when I got him home from the airport. I think what bothers me most is that I feel this had to have been known and was not disclosed. But I really shouldn't be too surprised. The vet told me Bailey also has peridontal disease, needs to have teeth extracted. He said its a horrible mess in there. I'm going to guess this little guy never saw a vet. And that just REALLY upsets me! I am the kind of person that when I know my brother or ex's dogs haven't been to vet for awhile, I offer to pick them up and take them for them. -- We wouldn't let our children or other family members go without the needed medication or well baby visits. Why do people think it's okay to to not take their dogs??? She probably didn't know anything was wrong. Because she just didn't pay attention.... <Stepping away from the soap box>
