I am so sorry to hear about Bailey. It really is heartbreaking to have a little one that is having and kind of health issues.

I truly believe that in a breed with as many health issues as the YT has, it is vital to support the breeders who TRY their darndest to breed healthy puppies and who support the breed club and registries that are also trying to promote breeding healthy dogs. As puppy buyers, we need to ask what health tests they do on their dogs, if they CERF and OFA and if you can see copies of all those things. Don't just take their word. Also, you should have a contract in which it is specified what will happen if a genetic disorder is present and you incur vet expenses. IMO, the purchase price of the puppy should be refunded up to the cost of the surgery, and not more than, but that's my opinion. A breeder should be thrilled to do so and to have placed a puppy in a home that is good enough to take care of the dog.

Unfortunately, not even the best breeder in the world can be 100% sure something won't crop up.
