| Made my "Baby" her spay appointment I'm a nervous wreck Made my little girl her surgery appoint. for next Tuesday and gosh am I nervous. To add to that she also has bilateral inguinal hernia's to be repaired so that just adds to it. They are going to keep her all night the day of surgery is this the norm. I can't imagine being home and her not being in our bed.We are having them use the laser hoped it would help her with the surgery a little. How long Should I expect her to be really sore? I'm thinking for at least 3-4 days is this about right .We just lost our little boy in Jan. to a car accident and I don't think the kids and I could make it through losing another dog. I'm hoping she pulls through like a champ. She just seems so little I thought she would be about 5-6 lbs because of her parents size but she is about 3lbs now.Just seems to little to have surgery but she'll be 6months next week. |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | The vet we use kept Oliver overnight for his neuter because of his size (3.5 lbs) and plans on doing the same for Rhett even though he is bigger (5 lbs at last visit). I'm glad she is cautious. The vets always told us to keep our girls activity level low for 10 days after the surgery... but by day 3 I'd practically have to pin them down to keep them from running around because they were feeling so good. Even the day after surgery, they didn't seem really sore. |

| Many of us have felt your anguish. I'm so sorry you lost your little guy to a horrible accident. Please have faith that all well go well with your baby's surgery. My Ruby was kept overnight as well, it was awful not having her here but I knew it was for the best. I can't say how long your baby will be sore as I'm sure the hernias will add to the recovery. Try not to stress too much (i know easier said than done!)

| I just had Gigi (3.5lb.) spayed yesterday. I was a nervous wreck too, but she did really well. she was tired yesterday and today, but tonight she is just like her old self. I know it is hard, but try not to worry too much. It is rare that something happens. If you don't have to hurry because of the hernias, why don't you wait a couple more months? Gigi is almost 7months now. I also had blood work done before surgery. Hope all goes well! |

| I would assume that with both surgeries they will provide her with some pain meds. She may very well just lay around for a few days on the meds and be fine by day 4. I am sure you will, but make it a key point to talk to the kids about safely picking her up for several weeks after she comes home. It is my understanding that the incisions will be smaller with that type of surgery. (the laser) I do think its standard for them to assume she will need overnight care. Keep in mind that having them on IV's after surgery helps keep them hydrated when they spend the whole day groggy. While she may miss her bed (your vet may allow you to drop it off for her use) and you may miss her, the quiet time enclosed area will benefit her recovery. |

| My Faith was spayed and had 14 baby teeth pulled a little over a month ago. She was 10 months old and 3 pounds. She did great. She was rather miserable the day of her surgery, but the next morn she was up and acted totally normal, except for being a little more sleepy than usual. I brought her home the afternoon of the surgery. Has your baby's adult teeth come in yet? If not, maybe you should consider holding off a month or two, so she could have her baby teeth pulled at the time of her spay. Yorkies are notorious for not losing their baby teeth and they can then be pulled at the time of spay, so they don't have to be put under at a later date for teeth. She would likely lose some baby teeth on her own, but very likely have some that won't come out on their own. Is the reason for keeping her over night because she is having the hernia repair also? Is it a 24 hour care clinic? If not, there would be no one there to know if she had problems during the night. All three of mine have come home they day of surgery and always seemed to rest better being in their familiar surroundings. It's just my opinion, but I feel they do better being with their loved ones at home, than spending the night in the hospital. Best wishes to you for a successful surgery and speedy recovery. I know that nervous feeling...hugs to you!

| I can relate We had our Yorkie Bailey spayed about 4 weeks ago she was 7 months old she only weighs 2.2 pounds. The vet said had she not been at 2 pounds she could not have had the surgery. She also had 6 baby teeth removed because her adult teeth was trying to come in around them. She was about 3-4 days laying around. She had to wear a cone because by the next day she wanted to lick it so make sure you watch for that. I spoke to the breeder that I got her from the week before the surgery and she told me that one of her friends had a yorkie spayed at 6 months and she weight 2 1/2 pounds and she had a hernia removed also and that she did just fine. I know it is scary but when they are so tiny I feel it best to spay them because I feel that having pups would be so hard on them and they may end up having to be put to sleep if they are to small to birth pups. You are doing the right thing |

| Good Luck on the surgery, Im sure your girl will be just fine. My Chloe had a spay and liver biopsy at the same time a couple months ago and all went well. It is pretty common for vets to keep the pups overnight, I chose to take Chloe home the day of her surgery and had to sign an extra sheet that basically said I was admitting that they had said it was in her best interest to stay but I was choosing to take her home anyway.

| I know it is scary, but she will be back home & back in your bed before you know it.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | My Bridget was spayed last Thursday and I can so relate to how nervous you are. She is 5 lbs, but that certainly didn't make me feel any better. Everyone here had such kind and positive things to say it really helped me get through the morning. I was so worried she would wake up and not know where she was or that I've abandoned her that I did take in an old sweater of mine that she likes to lay on. It has my scent and is familiar to her and asked that they put it in with her after surgery. I don't know if they did or not - but it make me feel better. After the surgery the hard part for me was keeping her calm!!! Your baby will do fine - if all the thoughts and prayers that come from all the YT members here help (and I believe they do) - she'll be up and back to herself in no time. Your the one that's going to need something to help relax you....a nice glass of wine may help!!!

| Thank goodness we are done with that. Bristol was spayed last month and I was so anxious about it. She did great. Came home a little sleepy-she didn't have to spend the night-but within a few days was herself. We will say a prayer for you! |
