| I need help, info, input, advice please!! OK, this is long and I dont know if this is in the correct place. I moved to the Phoenix area in 1998. My air conditioner on my house was very old but cranked along for another couple of years. In 2001, I had to put a new air conditioner on the house in June. I didnt have the money at the time, but a reputable airconditioner company installed a Lennox Air Conditioner on the roof and waited until I got the money. I paid them 4000 two weeks later. They told me Lennox was top of the line. In early 2004, I decided to turn my garage into my kennel/grooming area. So I went back to the same company and told them what I needed. They asked me if another Lennox was ok and I said yes, if they recommended them still. So I paid them 3600 for the installation of the Lennox in May. I didnt know at the time that Lennox was having major un-fixable break-down problems and this company already knew about it and never told me. In June of 2007, both of my Lennox Air Conditioners broke down within days of each other. If you live in Arizona, you know what that is like. Its 112 degrees all day and 95 degrees at night. IT DOESNT COOL OFF!!! My house and kennel were up to 95 degrees. I called out the same reputable air conditioner company. They told me that they had been having problems with Lennox and did not sell this product anymore. The Lennox company knew that there is a design flaw in there air conditioners and wouldnt back it up, replace them or fix them. He said that I needed 2 new units. At this time in my life, I did not have the kind of money for 2 new air conditioners nor could I get a loan. I had just put a new roof on my house the year before and was strapped for cash. So, I went an entire year with no air conditioners in the hottest year on record in 30 years! I did buy a window swamp cooler, but in July and August, they dont work or cool very well in Arizona. This was not a fun year! In May of 2008, I got enough money for two new American Standard Air Conditioners and paid the reputable company 3799 + 3300. The reputable company gave me 1000 off each unit!! I was happy, I was cool!! It was a great year except the water heater went out.(another 700 dollars) The year was perfect. It was such a mild fall, winter and spring that I didnt even run either unit from the end of Oct through mid May when the kennel unit would not work. Thats only 6 1/2 months of use on the new air conditioners. OK, heres the best part: In May of this year, 2009, my airconditioner on my kennel went out. I called the reputable company and they opened it up and said it looked like a 10 year old unit. I had a free-on leak and the coils were extremely corroded. They told me that they would not replace it, even though its under warranty, because it was installed above a kennel. The amonia and cleaning chemicals was what coroded the coils and caused the leak. They could fix it but not guarantee it for 2000 and I would need to pay 1000. I asked the repairman to check the other unit, but he did not. He just ignored me. By this time I was furious. I had a friend come out and look at the other unit and he said that the coils were black and didnt look good at all, almost like an old machine. He wouldnt trust it to last long either. The amazing thing is: The Lennox Air Conditioner that was on my kennel for 3 years had no coil or free-on problems and still looked new when they took it off the roof. SO NOW I NEED TO BUY TWO MORE A.C.'S TO THE TUNE OF 7 OR 8 GRAND!! I DONT HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY IN THIS ECONOMY!! I HAVE ALREADY GIVEN THIS COMPANY 14,600 IN 7 YEARS!! NONE OF THIER PRODUCTS HAVE BEEN RELIABLE!! THEIR WARRANTEE ISNT WORTH THE PAPER ITS WRITTEN ON!! OK, MY HAIR IS ON FIRE NOW!!!!!!!!!! I keep my kennel clean and use the same products to clean the kennel as I do my kitchen. My dogs are kept clean. Are they implying that my dogs are pooping battery acid and peeing sulfuric acid??????? If there was that much amonia in the air to corode the coils, my dogs would be dead and I would be sick. This is the biggest piece of BS and the costliest that I have had to deal with in years! Any input/suggestions are appreciated!!! Should I go to the Tv news like 3 on your side?

| I would definelty contact a news station, the Better Business Bureau, and a lawyer friend if you have one. I'm sure someone here on YT knows something about law. I wonder why you went back to the same company after the first time? Whenever I am not happy with a company even if it's not their fault, i don't give them my business.

I am hoping that someone on here knows about air conditioners also. I am pretty up-set that the American Standard Company will not guarantee their product if its over a kennel, no matter how big or small. It was the amonia comment that really frys my a*s!!

| Most AC manufacturers offer a $1000-$1500 rebate on new units. Check their websites. Also you may be able to write it off on your taxes.

| wow. I would keep throwing a fit! Is it a local owned shop or franchise? Probably wouldn't hurt to mention to them that you are about to put a call into the BBB.

| Yes, they are a well known, supposedly reputable company here in the Phoenix area. They have been in business for at least 25 years. Great idea on the BBB!! Thank you!!

| I have worked in the hvac field for about 5 years now. I do have a couple of questions for you.....Are you having your units seasonally maintenanced? Are you changing the filter at least every 30 days? Is your supply located near your puppies? I just wonder these questions first because #1 if your not having them seasonally maintenanced then the coils will become corroded FAST.....#2 You have to change the filter at least every 30 days because otherwise you are blocking air flow and therefore making the machine work a lot harder. And #3 if your supply is located near the puppies it is possible for the acid to be being pulled in right on top of your coils. I worked for the American Standard brand for about 4 years, really and truly they are the best. Consumer Reports has had it listed #1 for least amount of problems for many years. Let me know about the questions listed above and I will see if I can be of anymore help!

| I'd be on the phone and emailing EVERY single news outlet about this. It's BULL! I just replaced our TWENTY year old A/C unit a couple of years ago. An A/C should last at least 10 years, no matter the conditions, as long as you change the filter every 30 days, or more if needed. I'm so sorry, I just can't imagine how hot you and your pups must be I hope that you can get a resolution for this quickly. Get the word out! That "reputable" company is a rip-off and are counting on your silence. Go on Craigslist and make a post asking for other unsatisfied customers of that company to contact you. Don't post publicly about your specific problems YET, just gather others that are in your shoes, the more there are of you, the better. You don't want a lawsuit, so don't post publicly about what's happening, just ask for others to contact you privately. It makes me SICK that you are your dogs are suffering. I live in Florida, so I know what it's like to be hot I kinow it's even hotter in AZ! Thoughts and prayers going up for you!!!!!!!!!!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I've never heard that theory about not installing an air conditioning unit around a kennel, I wonder if that's a big fat lie. I think I would be tempted to get one of the window type units, if it was just in a garage; they are much cheaper to replace. I'm not sure which company you were dealing with; I think one of the hardest things about living in AZ in finding a reputable company for anything. Please report it to everyone you can, I would start with the AZ board of contractors, Arizona Registrar of Contractors, it's also a good place to check when you hire a contractor, you can see if a company has any outstanding complaints. Once you complain about them they will be much more likely to resolve the problem. I'm so sorry you are having this problem. Air conditioning in AZ is not a luxury, it's a necessity, and it can mean the difference between life and death.

The reputable company is will to install coated coils and wave all off the instalation fees or 1200 but I still have to pay for the coated coils, about 1000. I am sorry that I dont quite understand any of this. The Lennox that was on the kennel had absolutely no coil damage after 3 years of use, but the coils on the American Standard was totally ruined after only 6 1/2 months of use.
