So sad, did i do the right thing?

I went to pick out what was supposed to be our newest addition to my family today. I had many conversations with the "Breeder" before hand and was so shocked and saddened after I left to pick up the poor puppy. This was the description.

1/2 Pomeranian 1/2 Lhasa Apso. She is very friendly and loves all people young and old. She is very well socialized and gets plenty of exercise. Betty is 11 weeks old and has lots of brothers and sisters that she enjoys playing with. We are looking for a good home for her. We require she is spayed. She is medical up to date.

We chose to meet on neutral ground so we could see them both play together with out distraction with out one being intimidated or over powered, I just wanted my baby to get along with his new sister. When we met (they were 20min late with no apology) they came out holding a very somber dog, that looked MUCH older than 11 weeks old. I asked how old she was again and she said she is 9 months old. I was taken back but not discouraged. Chewy was on the ground and very curious about the dog so i asked if we could set them down together and she said yes.

She set the dog down and it just layed down, she seemed SO sad ( not interested at all. Chewy was sniffing she was just laying, she wouldnt smell my hand or anything. The OWNER went to pet her and the dog jumped up, pooped a very messy liquid poop, bit her (drew a good deal of blood) almost ran off. My fiance got her she bit him and threw up, and was frantic the rest of the time.

I asked how she usually is with other dogs and people (I had asked on the phone before but I just wanted to see if her answer was going to change on this too) and she said "she is how she is, she should worm up to you guys"

We had to pass on the dog, because as much as we would love to help this poor dog, it would be unfair to chewy to put him in that kind of situation.

The lady had nothing to say when we asked about these behaviors, the age confusion, and if she had the dogs papers on her. I just feel so guilty, like i had a chance to help but am being selfish

Awww, it is sad and I think I know how you feel. It would have been nice to help the poor dog, but she may have been ill with something that she could have passed on to Chewy and you don't want that.

Poor baby, sounds like she either hasn't been handled much or has been mistreated Do you know if this person has a lot of dogs? She could possibly be a puppy miller or a broker.

I think you probably made the right decision. This little gal could have cost you hundreds and hundreds in vet bills and a broken heart.

I'm sorry it didn't work out better. My heart goes out to you and the little doggy.

That is sad, but understandable why you could not have adopted the other pup. If this breeder was not being honest what else might you have to deal with? Liquid poop is the least of it ~ could it be an upset tummy, a parasite; I think the breeder was looking for someone she/he could have swindled easily. At least you knew what questions to ask. I would have similar feelings.

You are not selfish nor did you do ANYTHING wrong...if anything, the owner of that dog was trying to deceive you and take advantage of you. I would had called it quits when I found out how old she was. By you still giving the dog a chance(and the owner), it is a great testament to the type of person you are

Hi there, I hope you don't mind hearing from a newbie, but I just wanted to voice up on this. I don't think you made a bad choice. I understand you would have liked to have helped the poor thing, but you were also right in thinking of your little one and how it would effect them. There is nothing that says the dog would have gotten over her fear issues and it may have been more heartbreaking in the end if you had to let her go because she wouldn't calm down. I think it was wrong of the breeder to lie to you about her just to try to get her off her hands. Honestly, there is a reason she lied. And as MyPeanutAbbyGra has mentioned, she may have been sick and if Chewy would have gotten sick and maybe passed away because the dog might have been sick, well that would have been heartbreaking too. I truly do feel you made the right choice. The right dog will come along for you. I just don't feel this one was that dog. Hope you feel better about the situation. You did the right thing in thinking about Chewy.

She this dog has brother and sisters that were not sold yet and when they came they had 3 adult dogs, when I had asked what other dogs they had there was a combination of 3 different types of dogs. So I would assume that there is at least 6 adults (2 pomeranians, 2 Lhasa Apso, 2 Chihuahuas) and all there "puppys" that may or may not be puppies

Watch Chewy. If the other dog was sick then Chewy was exposed to it. Just keep an eye out for any changes for a while just in case.

I dont think he waqs exposed, the dog had no interest at all in chewy and chewy only got a few sniffs in before the incident. I'm more worried about my fiance gettingbit, it drew blood and even though the owner said it was up to date on his shots who knows!

YIKES! I forgot that you had said she bit your fiance! Honey, there's no way you could have brought that dog home. If she was biting no telling what would have happened. She may have been biting because she was sick or in pain? Who knows, but please don't feel guilty.

It definitely sounds like you did the right thing. It would have been horrible if you had gotten the new puppy and he would have ended up biting or getting Chewy sick.

I love Chewy's name by the way.

It sounds like the typical behavior of a mill dog that isn't use to being around people or being touched. It was scared to death, and when they are like that, they "will" have runny poop. They get so scared that they just lose all control. It's a horrible situation. You did the right thing, so don't worry about it. The next time you find a puppy, go to the breeders home, and don't buy any pup if there are dogs being kept in cages out back or in another room. Run, don't walk, away as fast as you can.

Major red flag. I'm just glad you did not let them take advantage of you. A reputable breeder will ask that you come to their home.

Maybe I am misinterpreting you message, so correct me if i am wrong. But i feel like they more than deceived, they flat out lied and this dog is being mistreated with out a question. This dog seemed unaware of anything happening at all.
