| Banfield Pet Insurance ??? Hi. They opened a Banfield Vet Hospital in our area and I am curious to get information from anyone that has used it or is currently used it. I'd like to know what plan you reccomend, how much it is and what it covers. Also, would like to know the good and bad and whether or not you are or were happy with it. Thanks in advance. Elaine |

| Can't speak for the centers anywhere else, but the Banfield's in this area aren't worth their salt..... it would have to be an absolute last resort for me to take one of my animals there.... and even then, I'd be extremely hesitant. Just one woman's opinion of course.... That's for the hospital in general... I can't speak on the insurance....

Thanks Dena. Yeah, I just googled it and they have a TON of complaints. I'll stick with my vet. Been going there 13 yrs. He's expensive but I know I can trust him. Truth is after losing Jersey I am have a terrible time walking into the office again. The girls need their nails done and Bella needs her rabies and I just can't bring myself to go back there right now. I know as soon as I walk through the doors I'm going to lose it. Thanks for the input. Elaine | |

| What are they? It sounds kind of like the McDonalds of vet clinics. That's a really creep idea. |

| Not sure if you are in south jersey, but if so, I got to Rothman in Collingswood, and like them there. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi Elaine . Well, it's not insurance, per se - it's just a plan that covers some things each year. I think it's okay plan the FIRST year - i.e., the Puppy Plan - as long as there is a good vet at the hospital you use. Because the first year includes a ton of stuff - I used it for Marcel and had a pretty good vet, who also listened to all my online research . After the first year, I don't think it really pays off much.

| I use it for my two because of the included benefits. I use the plan that's $25.99 a month. I can't remember which one it is. The closest Banfield to us, has a really crappy vet that almost killed Chip, but the next closest one to us (like 10-15 minutes away) is soooo much better and they saved Chip's life like 3 times when he had vaccine reactions. They were also very compassionate and caring when we put our cat to sleep in April and stayed 3 hours late with us twice when we brought her in for emergencies when she started getting sick. I couldn't be happier with them.

| As most of you know, Miko is liver compromised and needs bloodwork, urine samples/analysis, fecal tests, etc. on a regular basis.... A few years ago, I used to take Miko to Banfield for bloodwork, urinalysis/urine cultures, etc. and then I would take all of that info to our regular vet and specialist. For me, at the time, this was economically better b/c I was only paying around $30 a month for the bloodwork instead of $200 each time I had to have blood drawn/analyzed and $60 each time I had to have urine samples taken/analyzed...This plan included 2 or 3 blood panels/CBCs, 2 or 3 urinalyses/urine cultures, 2 or 3 fecal samples, heartworm testing, etc. Also, the vet that we had at Banfield during that time was really nice and loved Miko... I no longer do this, but it was good at the time that we had it... JMHO, but I would not have Banfield as a regular vet because it is much more impersonal if you don't get a good vet...Also, if your dog needs anything other than what is included in the plan, the prices are much, much higher than other vet offices... Like I said, I only used this place for bloodwork, urine samples/analysis, and fecal tests and vet was super nice...BUT Miko would see his regular vet and specialist on a regular basis...

| My Son and DIL have used Banfield for 5 years - they have a black lab. The one thing I don't like about Banfield is the fact you have to drop them off and leave them for checkups, shots, etc. You don't get any interaction with the Vet and to me that's very important. Their Banfield is inside Petsmart in Tulsa. Not sure about other cities. |

| They always did everything in front of me, and we always saw the vet...But like I said, I don't generally recommend Banfield b/c almost all of them are very impersonal...

| I use Banfield and have the plan for Gypsy since I got her and just got it for the chi. I really love the vets there. They really seem to care about the pets. They call the next day after shots to see if they are doing good .If they see them in the store or waiting at the desk they have to come out and snuggle with them. I think the plan for the first year is best cause it pays for the spaying. I saved a lot cause Gypsy had kennel cough and then a rash where I had to keep taking her back each week and that would have cost a lot more each time. They have kept Gypsy all day for her comprehensive exams each year and her spaying/teeth extraction and they kept Puff when they fixed her tail. But with shots they give them there with us in the room. That said, I was not going to renew Gypsy's this year and hubby talked me into it. Just in case he said.
