| Show me your gates!! Hi everyone! I'm in YT withdrawal. I've been so busy the last couple of weeks, but I'm blessed that I don't have to add a sad story with that. It's all been good busy, but busy nonetheless. Just missed you all so much. I did a search but can't find concentrated answers to my quest. I'm interested in the types of gates that any of you use at the top or bottom of stairs. With our elderly cat, we still can't let Coby have the run of the house. We have a tri-level and currently use the cheap wooden baby gates on both stairs. We don't use the tension, just "prop" 'em. But smart little Coby has learned that a skinny little nose at the bottom and some patience can move the gate without it falling over and grant him access to the Holy Grail - THE CAT .... oh and the cat food and the cat litter too!!! OOOH LA LA!!! What kind of gates do you use and what are the pros and cons? Any pics? I'm ready to buy but only want to buy one time (Returning things is my achilles heel). Peace all, Diane

| I use baby gates - so no help here. But my folks installed homemade, hinged, slatted, hanging baby-like gates - which lock. They are stained and finished to match the trim in the rest of the house. They look very nice and I'm sure they can be removed with just a little patch work and paint to the wall. This is something I considered - but fortunatley, we don't need 'em now that Bailey is potty trained.

| Homemade Gate...not the prettiest...but done on the cheap! My husband built mine for the stairs. I just can't see spending the money they want for these gates. We have a farmhouse so I had him use some old barn wood to make both the gate and the pen that Zoe's babies stay in. We just attached chicken wire to the boards. However, I had to then cover the chicken wire with material. We thought we bought the small holed chicken wire...but it was the big so of course the first thing the babies did...stuck their head through the holes. Now we do use a regular cheap gate with another doorway but on the stairs we needed something that would open and close. Only problem with it...its fits for a left handed person ???? We're all right....haven't said anything to him...yet!

I have this one too. It works great for using on the bedroom doors. For the rest of the house I have this: Freestanding Pet Gates I love that it is free standing! I am able to move it anywhere in the house....in seconds. | |

| We put up a tension gate, and it has worked well with Buster. He likes to jump and put his paws up on it, but he hasn't found a way to climb out of it (yet). |

| I got mine at Walmart. It works well, and we have had No problems using it .It is a little high and i can't climb over it, but it fits the front door well, and tightly. I also have a deck, and live on the second floor. I had to be careful what to buy too.

| I have to use this one: http://www.csnbaby.com/asp/show_deta...d=FR51-EVF1070 because my little Yoshi is a Houdini and climbs the metal ones and plastic ones. The one above is soft mesh that he can't climb and he can't hurt himself. It is also nice to use for hallways because it stretches extra wide!

| We have three... one at the top of the stairs, one at the bottom and one between the kitchen and living room... they are made by KidCo... We like them because you don't have to put them up/down all of the time, they are sturdy and are pressure mounted so they don't damage the walls :-) http://www.sitstay.com/dog/supplies/servlet/product_10001_10001_40348_-1_Center+Walk-Thru+Gate_13313_13325_[/URL]
