| Lol.... Pros... EVERYTHING! Cute, small, very loyal but independent, extremely curious with the best facial expressions. Strong desire to please their owners etc. etc! Cons - I can only speak for my little guy but - He can be quite noisey when excited. You see he has NO idea that he is only 6 pounds and would gladly take on a great dane if he thought he needed to. I've had some trouble with neighbors in the past because he gets to barking when I'm not home but they were weird neighbors in my opinion and I can't claim that all yorkies are as bark-a-licous as mine lol. If you are looking for an attentive companion that loves belly rubs and lots of attention, a yorkie might be for you. Jeni |

| I don't know that I can think of any Cons to owning a Yorkie, but there are many Pros!! Ranger is always willing to play, take a nap, or go on a walk with me I don't get a lotta lip outta him (he's not a yapper and only barks when he's alarmed) So far he has been great with kids (only under supervision) Plus he gives us so much joy and happiness that we wouldn't trade it for anything!!

| I have 2 boys which by the way will ONLY be able to play with the yorkie under supervision. This yorkie is going to be MY and mine only dog who will probably get treated like royalty because she will be my only "daughter" and will be treated as such lol. but do you all think that yorkies and children do good together? their ages are 4 and 2. courtney |

| I think it all depends on the dogs temperment and how well behaved the children are. My FH's nephews (5 and 2) are the only kids that Ranger has really been around for long periods of time and at first he was intimidated by them. Once he got used to them he loved their attention. I think if the puppy is introduced and around children often they will get used to them. Good luck finding the perfect "daughter" .

| Ranger is right about the well behaved kids part. Buckeye don't like kids in general even sets him off to barking when he hears a kid or even a baby crying on tv. the neighbor kids always wants to pick him up and i am constantly telling them no he don't like that. he shys away from them. but on the other hand another neighbor kid (3yrs) is real gentle with him and only wants to lightly touch him. Buckeye don't mind being around her at all. she is the only kid i have ever seen him making friends with. the yorkie will do his part if the kid does theirs.

| I have two kids, my son soon to be 12 and my daugther soon to be 4 next month. Gucci gets along well with my son but not with my daugther. I have to keep telling my daugther not to bother Gucci. New years was the first time that Gucci socialize with other kids and she did well, except with my daugther. She barks at her and sometimes growl when my daugther tries to botwher her. If My daugther doesnt bother her, Gucci is no problem. She is being nipping a bit cause she is teething but we tell her "No biting", and she stops. |

| The pros to getting a yorkie are endless... They are wonderful dogs who are full of love. As far as the cons... I would be careful having a yorkie with small children. Yorkies are very small and can be hurt easily, even when they don't realize it. My yorkie, Bentley, actually loves little kids... He runs up to them and wants to play... The other thing to remember about a yorkie is that they need lots of attention. Your puppy will want to be by your side at all times and will be very sad when he is left alone. If you don't think you will be able to give your puppy enough attention or the puppy will have to be alone a lot the it probably isn't right for you. |

| Go for it I don't know as much about yorkies as everyone else but I do know that the 2 weeks I've had Nala have been the happiest 2 weeks of my life. I wanted one for a long long time, but didn't have the money and with school it was hard to save, but luckily I met a wonderful guy and even though we've only been together 2 1/2 mths he bought me one for Christmas. I've fallen head over heels for her, she has ME wrapped around her lil paw, lol. When my lunch break and 5:00 roll around I can't get home fast enough to see her. She is all I talk about. My advice is just like everyone elses go for it, get you a yorkie baby. I promise it will be one of the best decisions you've ever made. |

1) terrier personality - my last Yorkie pup had no qualms of pooping in her crate, no matter how I adjusted the size, because unlike my fastidious Poodles, she comes from a long line of "dirt-dogs." 2) terrier personality - they come from terrier stock, independant, strong willed and scrappy little dogs who hunt vermin! Although people argue back and forth about whether Yorkies (or any other breed for that matter) can be jelous or vindictive, on a personal level, I have no doubt. We had a much loved rugrat, who would gladly pee in FRONT of us, while growling and hissing (she came to us because her original owner could not handle her), if we dared to repermand her for doing something wrong \, or better yet, if we dared to walk out the door and leave her alone. She was, in all other respects, one of the most lovable dogs we ever had. 3) small bladders - run, don't walk when they tell you they need to go! Especially as puppies, yorkies will often need to go out far far far more frequently than larger breed puppies. People getting Yorkies sometimes under -estimate that fact. If you work all day and have to leave your Yorkie for longer than four hours at a clip, this may become a big problem for you. You can't scold a pup for what he is physiologicaly unable to do! 4) Silky, fine coat - if it's cold out there or wet, your Yorkie may disagree with you about whether or not thou shall take thy pooch outside! | Pros: (I am very lucky) Mojo hardly ever barks, took me 3 months to hear him barking for the first time. He is not agressive towards children but is scared of them, gets along fine with other small dogs and pets. Is easy to train, very smart and funny furry little angel. Cons: They tend to be jealous of their people, high maintanance (a lottt of grooming). That;s all i can think of...out of all the dogs i have had, yorkie is the one the really got my heart!! |

| I love my Yorkie! Best dog I aever had! She is not a barker at all. Only if she hears someone outside our house. Who wouldn't want that? Then she will bark and look at you as if to say, don't you hear that and bark again and look at us. She was hard to train. She never house trained until she was 9 months old. I don't think their bladders mature too early. She loves my grandchildren. The only thing, she is 3# and I absolutely refuse to let them hold her or walk holding her. If they want to hold her, they must get on the floor to do it. My sister had a little Maltese, and her grand kids dropped it and it was paralized in it's back legs for the rest of it's life. We must protect out babies. Sometimes, she will go into over-drive, but then, one must deal with that and calm them down. She is a delightful Pet and one I know you would simply love. GREAT PERSONALITIES! Pat Last edited by mybirdys2003; 01-07-2005 at 12:53 PM. Reason: Mispelling |
