| concerned I am concerned, last night lily picked up her back left leg when she was eating I noticed but did not think much of it, then we went to my in-laws and when I put her down she did not want to put weight on it. I felt her leg from tip to hip and she did not yelp of act like it bothered her. I put her down and she ran after her grandma so I thought maybe it was just a fluke. When she woke up today she was fine so I got ready and went to church and she stayed with dad (he goes to church latter than I do). Then when I talk to my husband he said that once again she is favoring that leg. Not once can I remember her hurting her leg, yelping or anything she seems to have pain but yet only randomly during the day. The vet cannot get her in rate away, should I take her to the emergency vet. I don’t know please any suggestions.

| I'm sorry. I hate say, but this sounds like LP. Katie just had LP surgery and she was doing the same things. She would also hold it up when she ran and sometimes would yelp out for no apparent reason. It was because her knee was popping out. I hope this isn't what is wrong with your baby. Best wishes to you.

| If no injury, then it's likely to be a dislocation of the knee/hip....which often doesn't bother them at all, and will slip back by itself....but if in doubt, or if she has trouble getting it back to it's normal position, or if she is in pain....take her to your vet, or at least phone one. If it is a bothersome dislocation, they can operate and stabillise the joint....an x-ray will tell you if she has broken something. Good Luck....I think it sounds like a dislocation....but you'd better check if you think she is in pain. Debra x x x |

| When Milo did this I called the vet who told me to watch him for a few days if he showed no signs of pain. When he did not stop lifting the leg the vet had me bring him in for x-rays which showed he had a hollow hip socket. Just remember you know your dog, and you know what is best...follow your instincts. let us know what happens |

| I agree that it is most likely Luxating Patella. Lacy has this in both her knees with her right leg being the worst. Luckily it has never bothered her so far. If your's is bothering her (locking up, painful, or causing her to not put weight on it at times) she is most likely going to need surgery. I'd get her into the vet as soon as you can (it's not life threatening so if it's a few days that's okay). If your vet confirms that it is LP, you probably need to look into an orthopedic specialist.

| Thank you all for your info, the vet said to watch her and if it does not quit bothering her that I could bring her in next week when I take my other dog in for his shots. I was just confused on what to do because she does not act like it bothers her 90% of the day and all the sudden she will just hold it up. Can anyone tell me what causes LP and why so many yorkies have this problem.

| I can't help you with LP but I can tell you what happened with us. One day I noticed that he was lifting his leg when he was standing, still jumping and playing and showing no signs of pain, so I called the vet. They said just to watch him as long as everything else was normal and call them with a follow up in a few days. A few days past and he was still lifting the leg, still running and jumping and acting normal, we went in and the vet had first said they thought that maybe he dislocated his hip, and this would require them to just pop it back in to place but they wanted to take xrays. On the Xray it was very obvious that he had shallow hip sockets and they wanted me to take him to the local dog hospital, I did and they informed me he needed hip surgery. Well needless to say I was a wreck, and Milo pulled through with flying colors, he is no worse for the ware, and I just have a few more grey hairs than I had before. I know it is your baby, and you want what is best, but try not to obsess and stress to much, as my grandma used to say to me there is no sense in worrying about things you can't control it will only make you go in for plastic surgery sooner than you need too. Good luck with lilly and let us know how it goes with the Vet. |

| Yeah every now and then Chloe lifts her right leg up and hops around. No crying or discomfort , and it goes away. LP is just part of owning a Yorkie. |

| This could be either lp or Laxating patela, the vet should be able to tell if it is the knee by feeling it ,an x-ray can tell if it is LP. Knees sometimes will go back on and the dog should be rested in his crate to prevent more injury, with the lp it will need surgery. These are reasons to buy from a responsible breeder, your chances of getting these problems are much less. |
