| Nascar I have a two year old Yorkie that I have decided to start grooming myself. He now looks like a rat after his last hair cut. He is embarressed to go outside. I need some quick tips from anyone who has done this on their own. He has such a wonderful personallilty and is great with older people that when ever I take hime to visit my mother in the nursing home they all just cuddle and kiss him. Please help me. |

| If you buy a jacket or sweater that should cover up his body. If you can get him to wear a hat, that could cover the top of his head until it all grows back. |

| Aww, that's sweet, senior citizens always talk about Yoda when we bring him for a walk anywhere with people around. They just love little dogs! As for grooming on their own, just let it grow out, but I'd suggest perhaps having an assistant help if you have a squirmer, so one can hold your Yorkie while you can concentrate on doing all the cutting. Good luck! What's your little guy's name? |

| Pet Smart Honestly, I think it's really hit and miss with Petsmart. Sandy gets groomed there every six weeks, but I have to call and make sure the ONE lady I know is good with her gets her appointment. Otherwise, they will schedule her with just anyone. Two haircuts ago, there was some sort of mix-up and I sent my husband to drop Sandy off. They ended up pretty much SHAVING her entire body, leaving a nic on her right thigh as well - and I was furious. I keep Sandy's hair short (she has some Cairn terrier hair on her body, mostly yorkie hair on her head) BUT she looked so ridiculous. The next time I went in to get greenies, my regular lady took one look at Sandy and began to apologize. She felt so bad that Sandy had been through that. Anyway, I'm not really sure of myself when it come to grooming, besides brushing, clipping nails and trimming ears, so I really do have to take her in. As with anywhere, I think it just depends on the actual person doing the haircut. Good luck though, as aside from that incident I have had a really good experience there As a side note, the lady who gave her the horrid haircut no longer works there. I think she got too many complaints.

| the petsmart by my house has windows so you can see EXACTLY what is going on and a waiting area right in front of the window so you never have to leave youre dogs sight... i havent tried them yet, but i am considering trying to cut his hair on my own (at least once) just to see if i can do it..... I'll be sure and post pics if he comes out of it really funny looking but i dont think he needs a cut yet, ill give it a few more weeks |

| That is probably a good sign Good for you for trying to do it yourself! I am too chicken, scared she'll end up looking like she fell out of an airplane And I love the pictures of Toby you posted in another thread, he is just so cute! I love his little ears!

| I had been wondering about Pet Smart so I'm glad I found this post. I was in my local Pet Smart a couple of weeks ago and saw someones Yorkie getting groomed, I saw that they had this little blind fold thing on the puppy and I was wondering if this is something they always do or if it's supposed to have some sort of calming effect on the dog if they are nervous or something. It looked kind of mean to me. |

| I found these pages byYTCA.org while I was researching on how to groom a yorkie. This is my favorite website for yorkie-grooming guide. It's quite informative and even has diagrams to tell you specifically which blades to use. Best of all, there are also pictures for each step. (This is very helpful for me since I'm more of a visual person when it comes to stuff like this .. hehe.. ) I printed the pages out and kept in my library so that I can try on Cocoa when he gets older. (Right now he still has the normal puppy cut ...) Here's the link: http://www.ytca.org/grooming_clips1.html Hope this is helpful. |
