| desperately need help!! Housebreaking! My little 1 yr old yorkie Honey is... well lets put it this way, she's spoiled rotten! I never hardly ever crate her, she sleeps with me, and she never gets scolded. In the beginning as a puppy, I have tried housebreaking her with the crate method but she just doesnt seem to understand. So then I tried those wee pads, but she doesnt even acknowledge them! Ill take her out every 5 hours to do her business, but she just plays for minutes on end. I get so tired of wating. So Im thinking maybe she doesnt need to go. Then as soon as we get inside she'll go where ever she pleases!! She does this all the time! Its like she waits to get inside to go and I dont know how to break this habit. I had to invest in a $650 rug doctor just for her! Im getting fed up with it!!! Please help! Im desperate! Thank you so much! |

| Are you pad training her or outside traing her? You need to pick one way and stick with it. She needs to be confined when you are not watching her. Also if you are outside training her you need to take her out every 20-30 minutes not every 5 hours. Praise her and give her a treat when she goes outside

| "Little Pee Pots" Maggie is now 2, but has been housebroken since she was 6 months old. It was not even close to being easy. I took her out every hour (same spot) on a leash. Used the same word PP or Potty. Once she did the PP, I immediately picked her up, gave her a hug and back inside. I trained her Potty part by taking her outside 15 minutes after her meals. During the night, she would sleep in her crate, right beside my bed. I took her outside every two hours. When she was able to hold her PP all night, is when she started sleeping with me. She only had one accident in the house. I caught her in the act, and immediately picked her up and told her "Bad Dog" and took her outside to where she normally did her business. Good Luck. Once they mark their territory in the house, you will need to neutralize it. I have a yard that is fenced, so using the PP Pads was not necessary. Whichever method you use, stick with it like glue. They are very smart and catch onto things very quickly.

| I am in the process of training Rusty as well. He is about 4 mnths old. I have started using treats as rewards when he goes outside. 1 treat for PP 2 treats for both. I know he knows he gets them if he goes because as soon as we walk in the door e stops at our counter and stares at the bag. Then he start jumping for them. He loves them. I feel like they are helping but he is far from being trained. Good Luck Angelica

| There is a spray at your pet store you can spray on the pee pad that will draw them to it. I can't remember the name of it. it's been so long ago.. That is how we started out with our two yorkies. One caught on real fast and the other one seemed to get it from watching his brother. This might help. I will say that we still have an accident.... or should I say on purpose if it is real cold outside. They know where they are to go, they just get defiant. Patience....Patience.... Good luck.

| Just like SONYSW, pick a method and stick. Max is outside trained. It took about 3 intense weeks and he knew what his job was. Occasional accidents are very rare now at 10 months. I take him out every two hours during the day because he is so active. He goes 8-9 hours at night with no problem. He is confined to the kitchen when I can't watch him and is allowed in the rest of the house under full supervision only when I know he has done his "business". Crate puppy when not at home and take him out frequently when you're home. We do not play outside... it is business only until he is 100% reliable. Good luck to you |
