| Need help........ Im going crazy. I crate trained Daisy or so i thought. When she was in the crate she never went potty in there, so at about 8/9 months old i decided she was doing so good that i would take the crate away from her and let her have the downstairs. I'm a sucker i felt bad that she had to stay in there i work all day so my dad goes there at lunch time (11-12 EST) and lets her run around and she goes potty. she's had some accidents, which i know happen so i put a pee pee pad down in the bathroom (where her accidents are) but it seems she's having accidents more often. Yesterday i went home from work and she pee'd and pooped in my laundry basket of clean clothes (yes its my fault for leaving it on the floor). So i'm thinking maybe i took her out the crate way too soon should i re-crate train her (she was a year old in July)? Do i try to put a litterbox with fake grass? If we're home she goes right to the door and barks to go if the door isnt open. Thanks for your help!

| So, when you're at home, she's trained to go potty outside? If so, leaving things down on the ground, like pee pads, are only going to confuse her. It is not cruel for her to be in her crate. Most dogs LOVE their crate! I would say that you definately need to re-crate train her. She is probably getting VERY confused on where she is actually supposed to go to the bathroom. |

| I use a litter box (3) with the wee wee pads inside for TJ and Roxy to use while they are home alone. I work too all day. I gave them freedom of the downstairs when they were 1 year old and a couple of months So far so good, we had a lot of accidents along the way, but now they are really good! |

| When im home she has no problem going outside. When she has an accident its on the bathroom rug, next to the toilet, but you can only wash a rug so many times before it falls apart, sp i thought if i replaced the rug with a pee pee pad, i was good. i dont think she's confused, she could be i guess, i really dont know. maybe she wasnt 100% potty trained only like 90%. I will get her crate out of the attic i guess and retrain her that way i guess. I just feel bad thats all. She loves to lay on the couch with her blanket, but im afraid is she peeing on the carpet too. TLC: thats the exact reason why i put the pee pee pad down, is if she really needed to go and i wasnt home, then its ok to go on the pad.

| My 2 aren't 100% either and I don't know if they ever will be. They have peed on every rug and blanket and their beds (and mine) and towels, etc... I have learned that they are big time markers BUT they have marked everything so we are good now! I know, I used to feel bad for them when I would leave them alone all day - trapped in the spare room upstairs. That's why I gave them downstairs, b/c they just LOVE to sit on the couch and sleep in the sun and look out the window... Good Luck! |

| Remmy is 4 and if I am gone for a long amount of time I put him in there. I work all day and go home for lunch to let him out so he is in there when we are at work. Chance also and he will be one next month. I don't know if Chance would potty in the house but he is into everything and i'm afraid that he would get into something and hurt himself. Both of my boys sleep in their crate at night also. I think we will always have a crates out.

| when everyone states that they leave their pup in the crate....Exactly how log do you leave them in there? What would be too long to leave the pup in a crate? The crate that we bought is just big enough for her to stand up, lay down and do a little circle.

| Daisy sleeps in a playpen at night..i dont think she's doing potty in there. I just dont like that shes confined in there, i like her to be able to do whatever, but then again im sure she sleeps all day so it wouldnt be too big of deal. I will put the crate back up this weekend and try and re-train her. Iheartmypup: When i put Daisy in the crate she would be in there from 9-11 then 12-5:30 and if i went out to the store or something. THe crate i have for her is big, but when i was training her i put a board in there to make it smaller.

Loki is completely crate and housetrained, HOWEVER, he likes/needs to pee often and if he rang his bells a few time and waited and no one took him out I'm sure he'd just pee on the floor. But if he's in his crate, he just sleeps and it's fine. For whoever asked - it's cruel to leave a dog in the crate longer than they can hold it and it's cruel to crate them and not exercise them. Otherwise, don't feel guilty. In Loki's case he can go up to 5 hours, but I like to stick with less than 4. Longer than that and he needs a potty break. He doesn't spend every day in his crate and he goes to doggy daycare once a week and gets walks, so he gets enough exercise. When he was a puppy I couldn't leave him more than 30 mins in the crate or he'd have an accident. So anyway, how do you know she is not going to the door and waiting for you to let her out when you aren't there? She probably does and then goes to find a spot when no one lets her out. Oh, and one more tip. Once Loki was crate trained, meaning he wouldn't pee in his crate any more, we upgraded to a much larger crate with a comfy mattress and nice crate cover. When I leave for longer than a trip to the store I give him my big fleece blanket that he and I fight over Trust me he'd rather be in there than the couch - it's less stressful because he can't see out the windows or anything. I think he likes when we leave occasionally because he can nap in peace!
