| OK, one problem since boarding... It seems that Wosie has totally forgotten what the papers on the floor are for! She was pretty much combo-trained (inside on paper, and outside) when we left a couple weeks ago, and now I have gone back up from one paper, to two, now three, and she still will pee where the paper is NOT. What's up with THAT? I tried mopping it up and touching the paper with it, and in the morning there is still a floor puddle with nice clean papers next to it. Any suggestions?

| That is why I am not boarding my three when we go on vacation during Mardi Gras week. I contacted the pet sitter yesterday to make sure I lined her up before she got booked for that week. Lots of people here either go to DisneyWorld, snow skiing or on a cruise during that week. My babies will get 2 visits a day from Debbie. She will feed them and make sure they still have water. She'll also brush them, play with them, take them outside to give them a change of pace. She'll turn on lights and open blinds in the morning, turn down lights and close blinds in the evening. She'll pick up my mail and my newspapers. For all 3 dogs, the charge is $22 per day. I can't beat that! My dogs won't get any nasty habits while we're away. Lisa

| Unfortunately, I guess this isn't unusual behavior after major changes in their life. I would go back to containing her in a small area that is covered with papers so that she must get used to the feel of paper under her feet again when she pees. I expect she wasn't peeing on paper at the kennel. She, therefore, got unaccustomed to the feel of it under her feet. Praise lavishly (& maybe treat) when you catch her doing it right. I'm betting it won't take long for her to remember to do it the way that pleases you! |

| Same here... I am just going to keep on going and I think she will eventually come back to the papers. Actually, I would prefer her bladder grow a little faster so she doesn't pee in the night at all, lol! She does really well in the day, and really only has her accidents at night. Oh well, we keep on trying! Thanks for all the advice!

| My puppy doesn't travel much ---but puppy pads go with him every place he goes. And, whoever might have him is instructed to make sure he knows where they are and to take him to them at least once an hour. To date, he has used them at my sister's house and at my friend's house. I am also taking him outside - where he pees, of course - and he knows this is good. I had a friend whose dog was so well puppy pad trained that it wouldn't go outside. It waited until it got back in the house where the puppy pads were. I'm trying to teach my dog that he needs to go on the puppy pad in the house and that he can also go outside. Then - I had a friend whose dog got in so much trouble for peeing in the wrong place (inside) - that it refused to go outside when she had it on a leash. It was just too close to her and thought it would be in trouble. If it was loose from her outside, it would go when it got a distance away from her (like she couldn't see it or something!) We need to be so consistent training our dogs that it is always a problem when things change for them --at least when they are young. My one dog was so well trained that if any dog or cat had an accident in the house --she would hide under the bed for hours. Carol Jean |
