| Potty Trainng A Problem So I got Molly when she was 14 weeks old, She is now 22 weeks and still not potty trained. Since the day I brought her home she has gown potty outside if i take her but she also goes inside. It doesnt matter if i do a schedule or what not she still goes inside sometimes. She gets treats when she goes potty outside she doesnt go when she is in her cage and she sleeps with me at night and goes 9 hours without pottying. She gives no sign before she does go potty inside she just goes. We potty 1-3 times a day inside depending on the day. Anyone have any suggestions?

| These little dogs take a long time. Did you mean you take her outside to potty 1 -3 times a day or she is pottying inside 1-3 times a day? - that part confused me. If you're only taking her outside 3 times a day at 6 months old - for a little dog like a Yorkie, that's not enough, she needs to go out more often. If you meant she's having accidents in the house up to 3 times a day, then IMO she's doing pretty well for 6 months old. Have you considered piddle pads for inside the house? If you really don't want to use them, she needs to go outside pretty much every hour until she's trained and you need to watch her like a hawk when she's in the house and quickly scoop her up and take her outside when you catch her going. Patients, that is normal for her age and this breed.

| Oh, forgot to mention - dogs naturaly won't potty inside a crate or kennel even when they're really young (unless they're left in there way too long of course) so that doesn't have much to do with whether or not a dog is housbroken. Sleeping 9 hours at night and holding it in is natural at this age too, so again, not an indication of being housbroken.

i didn't want to do pee pee pads either, but with Alice, it just seemed like a necessity. If you really don't want to, you'll have to confine her to a small area of the house (like in an ex-pen or to one room such as the kitchen) in between potty breaks (unless you're watching her very closely and can catch her in the act to take her outside quickly) until you can trust that she's truely housebroken. Good luck

| Pottying in the house on pads...is gross to me...and I think allowing them to potty in the house on a pad and pottying outside only confuses them...they think I can potty anywhere. I know there is a few member that do both successfully so I guess it can be done. I live in Florida so my babies are potty trained for outside only...What I do is make it fun to go outside to potty...I have a 7 mos old boy Harley so I'm potty training again myself...I kept Harley confined in a play yard, I'm not a fan of the crate training...I only use a crate for travel...I take him out every 2-3 hours...and I talk to him on our way out...I say Harley you need to potty, lets go outside and potty...he goes nuts now when I say that...and off we go outside...I keep saying "go potty" until he does...once he pottys I throw a potty party and reward him with a treat...When I know he has to poop too...I say "hurry up" until he poops again when he does his business I throw a potty party and reward him with a treat...if he does both right away...I let him play for awhile outside as another reward for his good potty habits and I also let him play in the house with me for a few after too...but if he doesn't do either or just pees and I know he has to poop too...I will bring him back inside and put him in his play yard, no treat and no play time...for about 10 to 20 minutes and I try again until he does...I didn't let him have full run of the house while he was in training...I kept him confined at all times when I couldn't watch him. you have to set them up for success...and that starts with you...don't give them the chance to fail...you have to be consistent with your training...I find that my babies love to please me...and they should be rewarded for that...Harley is doing great with his potty training, he is hardly ever in his play yard now...He now comes to me and lets me know he has to potty...and I think he learnt that from Bella cause she lets me know when she has to..LOL...He is by no means fully pottied trained like my girl Bella...I still confine him when I have to go out for something...but I will probably start giving him little test runs if I'm only gonna be gone 30 minutes or so here in a few more months...Bella was over a year old before she got full run of the house while I was gone, not cause she pottied but cause she was a chewing machine...LOL

No Longer a Member | I have Rizzo trained to both indoors on pads and outside, and we haven't had an accident in quite a while. He doesn't poo in the house, he waits until he can get outside, and he very minimally uses the pads, like maybe once a day (he's a year and half now) To me the pads aren't any different from a litter box, other than they are cleaner and easier to pick up and replace. But that could just be me. Sounds like your pup is on the right track to being successfully potty trained though |

| Presto is trained for both inside and outside. He doesn't have any accidents inside and knows to use potty pad but he will go when we take him outside too |
