I have Rizzo trained to both indoors on pads and outside, and we haven't had an accident in quite a while. He doesn't poo in the house, he waits until he can get outside, and he very minimally uses the pads, like maybe once a day (he's a year and half now)
To me the pads aren't any different from a litter box, other than they are cleaner and easier to pick up and replace. But that could just be me.
Sounds like your pup is on the right track to being successfully potty trained though
